Muslim teen creates clock, shows teachers, gets arrested

When Ahmed Mohamed went to his high school in Irving, Texas, Monday, he was so excited. A teenager with dreams of becoming an engineer, he wanted to show his teacher the digital clock he'd made from a pencil case.

The 14-year-old's day ended not with praise, but punishment, after the school called police and he was arrested. A photo shows Ahmed, wearing a NASA t-shirt, looking confused and upset as he's being led out of school in handcuffs.

"They arrested me and they told me that I committed the crime of a hoax bomb, a fake bomb," the freshman later explained to WFAA after authorities released him.

Irving Police spokesman Officer James McLellan told the station, "We attempted to question the juvenile about what it was and he would simply only tell us that it was a clock."

The teenager did that because, well, it was a clock, he said.

(snip)

Outrage over the incident -- with many saying the student was profiled because he's Muslim -- spread on social media as #IStandWithAhmed started trending worldwide on Twitter with more than 100,000 tweets Tuesday morning. The school's Facebook page is roiling with sharp criticism of the way the teen was treated, and the hashtag #engineersforahmed is gaining popularity.

President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and thousands of others are showing support for Ahmed.

"Cool clock, Ahmed," Obama tweeted. "Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great."

The President would like the teen to join him and other scientists next month for the White House's annual Astronomy Night, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday.

You’re right and I’m smelling something fishy about it all. I think it was a set-up.

With all due respect, it looks EXACTLY like an IED. Glad they arrested the little sh*t. Hope they look at his phone and computer too.

The whole family needs to be investigated and then deported back to the mooselimb hellhole from whence they came. The father of the yute, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed (how 'bout that for a name?) is an islamist activist. This koranimal has tangled with the Christian minister in Florida who rightly called for burninng their book of evil lies.

NASA has been doing more muslim community outreach than space exploration in recent years.
The kid that bit a cookie into a gun shape was suspended; this kid was invited to the White Hut.
That pencil case looks like a cigar promotion I bought a few years ago. Bought the cigars just for the nice case.

I agree 100%. I'm all for wholesale mass roundup of mooselimbs in America and shipping them off to secured interment facilities where they can be monitored 24/7. That's what it takes to prevent the next 9/11.

mooselimbs: the enemy within

The liberal lie of a "moderate muzzie" is just that -- a manufactured falsehood. None of them are to be trusted and both the Irving ISD and PD did the right thing in their handling of the muzzie yute, Ahmed Mohamed, a terrorist-in-waiting.

I’m not torn.

He took it to school, showed everyone, no secret at all.

Grotesque and stupid overreaction by idiots who miss the real threats all around them.

Bingo.

Gee, I built one very similar to that one when I was in High School from a Radio Shack clock board and DigiKey LED seven segment displays.

Mine also had an alarm with snooze bar.

If you see something, say something,

and get arrested for a hate crime.

Looks very suspicious. Methinks this yute was trying to intimidate the infidel, trolling for a lawsuit or both.

Howzabout buying a $10 watch from the dollar store?

Quite possibly one of the stupidest quotes I have ever seen from a police officer.

Followed closely by this one: "However, he said, "We live in an age where you can't take things like that to school.""

gee wonder why the cops questioned him for a long time an never felt like they were getting straight answers?

They asked him what it was and he said it was a clock. It was, in fact, a clock, nothing more and nothing less. How much straighter an answer should he have given?

Why a clock?

Why not?

“Really? And what would YOUR attitude be if YOUR son or daughter was harassed and cuffed by the police for absolutely nothing”

A couple of my sons WERE harassed by the police about 35 years ago. (Two separate incidents.) No big deal was made out of it by us or other parents involved.

Weeeell. My kid isn't from an ethnic group that's intent on killing infidels so it would be an entirely different situation.

And therein lies the big mistake by the school and police department...once they figured out it really was a clock, the cops still arrested the kid for making a "hoax bomb" instead of just backing away and telling him good job.

Of course. They had to double down on the stupid because by just having a clock the kid embarrassed the administrators and the cops so the kid got charged with a "contempt of cop" charge.

The kid should be thankful that he didn't get charged with "resisting arrest" and then tased and beaten until he was dead. All of which would have been "justified" because the cops would say they were "in fear for their lives".

It grates me to say this, but kudos to President Obama for curb stomping the possibility of this kid being retaliated against.

The kid is wearing a NASA tee-shirt.

Get a grip...

Saw a pic of a muslim Syrian "refugee" wearing a Heineken shirt. Shirts don't mean anything.

Doesn't an IED usually have some component that actually, like, blows up? Could it really be that hard to determine that there was nothing in this case that would explode?

Well, in the school's defense, the homemade clock was an "improvised device," and "ID" is just one letter away from "IED," so.....yeah.
