President Obama on Wednesday extended a White House invitation to the Muslim ninth-grader who was suspended earlier this week for bringing a homemade clock to his Texas school.
“Cool clock, Ahmed,” Obama tweeted about Ahmed Mohamed, 14. “Want to bring it to the White House?”
“We should inspire more kids like you to like science,” the president added. “It’s what makes America great.” Police in Irving, Texas announced on Wednesday that they are not filing charges against Mohamed after the Sudanese-American student brought his clock to MacArthur High School, NBC News reported.
Mohamed was suspended for three days by Irving School District administrators after his clock went off during class. A teacher questioned whether the clock was a bomb and confiscated it.
The student was later handcuffed and taken into police headquarters for questioning, according to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
“It's clear some of Ahmed's teachers have failed him," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.
Earnest said the episode can serve as a "teachable moment" about how "pernicious stereotypes" can cloud people's judgment.
Earnest said Ahmed has been invited to Astronomy Night at the White House next month.

If I wanted to give the ‘teen’ the benefit of the doubt: clock, and not a bomb (or precursor), I do not any longer.

The halfrican muslim is doing his best to put America at risk, in every conceivable way.
The device was not a “homemade clock”; it was a store bought digital clock the perp had dismantled and rebuilt inside a pencil box, the whole thing looking like a small briefcase. Indeed, all it needed to be a real bomb was a detonater and a charge. Looks like the individual wanted to create a hoax bomb and did. Kudos to the school authorities and the cops.
How about inviting the kid who was suspended from school for making a pop tart that “Resembled” a gun..oh yeah almost forgot, that kid was American NOT Muslim therefore he has no rights
You can build a clock and be coy about what it is but don’t show off your knot tying skill by making something that looks like a noose.
I couldn’t imagine that this was serious. I really thought this was a joke and was looking for </sarc> or </satire> or something. When I didn’t see it I clicked the link, and it looks legit. So very sad.
