Land Commissioner George P. Bush chalking up absences to campaign for dad
San Antonio Express News ^ | 9/13/15 | Brian M. Rosenthal, Austin Bureau

Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush has been out of the state or otherwise off of work nearly half of the time since his father entered the GOP race for president, records show, raising questions about whether the scion is fulfilling his pledge to remain focused on his first elected office.

Personal time — both related to the presidential race and for other reasons — took the commissioner away for the equivalent of 23 of the first 50 work days after father Jeb Bush announced his bid on June 15, according to an analysis of records obtained under the Public Information Act. The total includes 15 full days off and dozens of smaller chunks of time off on other work days that add up to eight days.

It is impossible to tell exactly how much of the time off was spent campaigning, because the commissioner’s official calendar does not say what he did in those hours. Social media posts indicate he spent a significant amount of it on the trail, however, speaking at his father’s announcement in Florida, publicly stumping for him in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada, headlining a fundraiser in Texas and attending a campaign staff retreat in Maine.

General Land Office spokeswoman Brittany Eck said it would inaccurate to say Bush has missed a lot of time because he often works remotely while out of the office and makes up for his absences by working on weekends.

“Just because he’s not sitting at his desk for the day doesn’t mean that he’s not working during that day,” Eck said. “In today’s society, you don’t just sit in your office Sent from my iPhone

The commissioner’s calendar shows that he scheduled events on parts of two weekend days during the 10 weeks.

If he wants to work for Yeb he should resign his position. Just another moocher on the government gravy train.

If I’m taking off half of my first year on the job, I’d sure as heck better be calling in “dead.”

Sure hope his paycheck reflects his absences; mine certainly would.

“Like father like son - they love no show jobs.”

It is a family tradition. Remember his Uncle George W. took time out from his National Guard service in the 1970’s to work on the political campaign of a family friend. After Katrina he pretty much phoned in is job as president.

How does a land commissioner pull off twenty nine days gone. Hmmm.

These dang jobs must be window dressing, totally unnecessary to Texas in the first place, if you don’t need to show up on the job.

You may remember Jimmy Stewart in THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, saying.. “...just the privileged class, enjoying their privileges”.

I believe that applies, here.

A lot of people voted for him because his last name was Bush, including most who are members of Republican Women’s groups. These groups as well as Texas Republican Women also strongly support the Chamber of Commerce. Just a couple of the reasons I no longer belong.

Well, I campaigned against him because if you researched the guy before the election you found that he is a guy who is really not used to work.

As a candidate for office he was supposed to have a work history here in Texas. Instead all he had done was to get his name put on a door of a business in Houston while he continued to spend the bulk of his time in Florida with his family.

A fake Texas residency with a fake Texas employment history.

Actually we are better of with him gone. Were he here he would be finding under the table ways to give government work to illegals instead of to Texans.
