Athens has allegedly denied a U.S. request to close airspace to Russian aircraft that would transport humanitarian aid to Syria, according to a Sputnik report.

According to the news agency report, citing as a source an anonymous Greek diplomat, Moscow has requested and received Athens’ permission to conduct flights to transport humanitarian aid to Syria in the period from September 1 to September 24.

“On Saturday, U.S. Embassy [in Athens] appealed to the Greek government with a request to prohibit the flights of Russian aircraft in the FIR Athens. The Greek government refused to do so, in order not to worsen relations with Russia,” the source told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

Greece’s foreign affairs ministry did not confirm or deny the report.

I’m sure Greece will be happy to close flights to the Russians—if the U.S. will bail out Greece.

When you think about it, the USA is funding every kind of terrorist to destroy Syria and the Syrians are dying because of it. So Greece, understanding the Syrian refugee crisis and the source of the crisis (USA terrorism) have decided to help Syria fight off the USA terrorists.

Did I miss anything? Greece, the bankrupt country that decided to stand up to terrorism (The USA) and help another small bankrupt country

Once you loose leverage with other nations, forget getting any favors. Europe no longer respects the US because we have lost our superpower status in their eyes. Any of them could drop a bomb on NYC and they know the US will continue funneling huge sums of money to them through the State Department. We always have and always will until a change in foreign power philosophy is made. We even send money to China.

Yes, you missed something — the Assad regime, thuggish though it is, has always protected Arab Christians, the largest group of which in Syria are, like the Greeks and Russians, Orthodox.

A couple of months ago Greece and Russia had an energy agreement. This is part of the payment.

Why are Russian planes bound for Syria flying through Greek air space? Unless Turkey is refusing overflights, Greece would be out of the way.

Yet one more illustration of why it’s important to have a President who is respected and taken seriously by the world.

Damn this Congress for not impeaching and removing him.

And if the US will stop the invasion flood taking over some of he Greek Islands

Not likely

It is in Greek interest to let Russia try to stabilize Syria because the US policy of destabilization is having pretty obvious results

The Assad regimes have been secular, not Islamist

Hell, the U. S. does not even respect the U.S. The population of the United States has descended into the worship of Obama. The rabid hatred of Almighty God. The worship and idolization of queers and their sexual practices. The murder of the unborn and partially born and after the murder, the sales of their vital organs to be used in the manufacture of foodstuffs and “medical research”. The worship of animals such as cecil the lion while holding in the basest of contempt, what God refers to as a blessing; to wit} babies. And we, as a Nation are not even near the bottom yet.

I guess Greece can sell air space to the highest bidder? It may help with the economy.

While both Greece and Turkey are NATO members, Russia has always had friendly relations with the former and been in a serial state of war with the latter for hundreds of years. Besides, Turkey is the last country that would want a Russian naval base and ground troops operating in Syria. They have been flanked by their worst enemy.

In respect to the USA, the Russians in this game are playing chess. Kerry and the Obama administration are just playing with themselves. Nothing we are doing in that region is coherent. We are effectively aligning with Shia Iran, a big supporter of Assad and enemy of every other Arab regime in the region. And at the same time funding the Sunni opposition, actually Al Qaeda, helping to supplant him with a terrorist regime intent on killing (enslaving the younger females) every Christian, Jew, and non-Wahhabi Muslim they can get their hands on. In Egypt and North Africa they're backing the Muslim Brotherhood, a masquerade version of ISIS.

There's no consistency except everything they are doing is detrimental to Israel's security interests and the opposite of base American foreign policy in the region pursued through sixty plus years of both Democrat and Republican administrations.

Obama/Soros policies drive Greece into Russia’s arms.

Good work, Obama.
