The police officer who was fatally shot this morning outside of Chicago has been identified as a longtime veteran of the local police force, the mayor said.
Joseph Gliniewicz was named as the police officer that was killed in Fox Lake, Illinois. The manhunt for three suspects believed to be involved in the shooting is underway and involves state and local officials, Lake County Sheriff's Department Det. Chris Covelli said this afternoon.
"Not only did Fox Lake lose a family member but I lost a very close friend," Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit said at a news conference.
He said that Gliniewicz was a father of four boys and had worked for the force for more than three decades.
"Many residents here knew him as G.I. Joe," Schmit said.
The deadly shooting is believed to have happened after the officer sent a radio message saying that he was chasing after three men, authorities said.
The incident started at 7.52 a.m. today when the officer said via radio that he was pursuing two white men and one black man, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman

Thirty-two year veteran of the force. Former Army Reservist. Father of four. Mrs. SCR heard from another source that he had planned to retire last month but was asked to stay on a little longer.
NOW can we arrest the black lives matter ringleaders?
They are the same as yelling fire in a crowded theater.
(btw is anyone noticing the skin colors the assassins are targeting?)
sad.
Evidently at least one of the suspects is black. But I would imagine that “Pigs in a blanket. Fry ‘em like bacon,” would encourage thugs of any color.
They must know who they’re looking for. If Officer Gliniewicz radioed he was chasing them he must’ve read their car license.
Just sitting around here with nothing to do today, I decided to see if I could identify him. Fox Lake is a small town, and how many lieutenants could there be? I found a couple of references to a lieutenant, and now I know it was him. He and his wife worked in a youth organization for kids who might be interested in police work. I also found his Facebook page. He had posted just a few days ago about going out with his wife; about one of his kids returning to school; about having had an exhausting week and how nice it was to relax on his deck. Yes — sad.
Let’s hope that information will be useful to them. From some of the TV reports, it sounds as if the suspects might be on foot. There are a lot of areas they could disappear into up there.
He was investigating the scene of possible robbery. They are investigating that scene too. Hopefully they will get finger prints or find their vehicle
I wonder if he had a camera on himself or his car? I haven’t heard any mention of that.
It seems odd that they haven’t identified the suspects. All I’ve heard is two white, 1 black, all male. No vehicle description so may be on foot, as you say.
This officer sounds like a very decent guy.
That may be part of the third scene. They said they were involved in three
1. Location of original crime
2. Location of officers murder
3. Search for the culprits
Local
State and national are all involved
Horrible loss..he leaves behind a few children, children who will never see their father again because of the act of three scum bags
White Hispanics ???
I am not clear on how much information that had on the suspects, or where it came from.
That remains to be seen. There was a store robbery a few weeks ago in Wauconda, which is up that direction, and the store owner shot the robber. It looked like a store that specialized in Latino products, and there are pockets of Latinos around Waukegan, so “White Hispanics” might be a possibility.
The officer , “who was killed “ , not, “that was killed” ...media morons treating him like an inanimate object.
Meanwhile Obama rechristens a mountain in Alaska and warns the world of the terrifying danger of global warming. Liberalism IS a MENTAL disease.
Wow. I feel like that was a pretty awesome glance into his life. How that devastated family must be feeling ... He was a good man, who loved his family, his profession, and life.
Sadly one of his more recent posts jumped out at me ... It indicated he had just had some disappointing news regards a job interview.
Eerily, a friend responded that “There must be something else in store for him”.
Prayers up for this Patriot and his family ~
This is sickening.
It’s good sometimes to dig for information on stories such as this. It sheds some light on what and whom we have lost.
