In the case of Obama, he is simply pandering to the people who elected him, which isn't difficult since they are of the same ilk.
In the case of Donald Trump and the issue of NSA intelligence gathering of private citizens' phone calls, Trump would be at odds with the very people who helped elect him, and if this constituency provided sufficient pressure and was vocal enough, I think he'd have an open mind to their concerns.
Furthermore, since Trump will be depending on a very pro-Constitutional bloc of voters in order to get elected, I think it's rather unlikely that he will constantly be seeking shortcuts around the Constitution in the manner of 0bama.
Additionally, in the wake of a Trump election, there would logically (and almost necessarily) be a wave of sentiment advocating for smaller, less intrusive government.
I just don't see Trump as someone who would attack traditional Constitutional principles in an effort to implement his policies. I think he would use the art of persuasion to reach some measure of consensus in cases where issues might be Constitutionally contentious.
In short, I think that business-as-usual political corruption and shortcut-taking would not be Trump's style.
I believe Trump wants to change the way Washington operates, and bring back accountability, austerity, and pride to the office of the Presidency.
Trump is simply very unlikely to fall into the behavior patterns which most establishment politicians operate within.
Whatever President Trump's specific policy preferences might be (and I'm sure I'd disagree with many of them), trying to claim that he would simply exhibit the same-old-same-old that we're used to seeing from the kleptocracy is quite the stretch, IMHO.
You keep saying “I believe”, “I believe”. “I believe Trump would do this” or “I believe Trump wouldn’t do that. How do you KNOW this? This sounds like a religion “I believe” not a reasoned decision based on anything substantial. I happen to believe the opposite but I have reasons why I believe this based on things he has said and done.
This man has been married three times now. I’m sure his former wives believed him too. Gheez, he cheated on his first wife. Why would a man that couldn’t keep his marriage vows feel obligated to keep any promises to me?
He has no political track record except his conflicting statements and changing party loyalties. I have nothing to go on except what I know of the man. I cannot in good faith vote for someone like this for POTUS. Maybe you can.
