Statistically he’s about a year younger than the average Pioneer League player, but you’re right, he isn’t putting up the offensive numbers that a 1B needs to put up. Fielding isn’t that great either.

The Pioneer League is essentially an advanced rookie league and it’s not unusual for people, especially people drafted out of high school, to be there at his age.
That being said, this is his second or third trip to the Pioneer League so it’s not looking good for him. Here’s his history.

I find that hard to believe, but will accept it.
Nonetheless, the Pioneer league is a short-season league -- one level above the entry level complex leagues (the AZL and GCL). As such, the normal progression for a prospect drafted out of high school would be the AZL at age 18, the Pioneer League at 19.
A player drafted out of college would start in the Pioneer League -- generally at age 21.
Consequently, Denson is over-age -- for a prospect.
Follow that up with Denson is now in his third season with the organization...and he has yet to progress beyond short-season ball.
