David Denson makes history as first openly gay active player in baseball

(CNN)David Denson, a first baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers' rookie affiliate in Helena, Montana, made baseball history this weekend by revealing that he is gay.

Denson, 20, publicly disclosed the news in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article after sharing it with his family and Helena Brewers teammates. The news makes Denson the first active player affiliated with a Major League organization to come out publicly.

"Talking with my teammates, they gave me the confidence I needed, coming out to them," Denson told sports writer Tom Haudricourt.

"They said, 'You're still our teammate. You're still our brother. We kind of had an idea, but your sexuality has nothing to do with your ability. You're still a ballplayer at the end of the day. We don't treat you any different. We've got your back.'"

Denson, who is batting .245 with four home runs and 18 RBIs in 42 games for Helena, is the Brewers' 27th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com. He was selected by the Brewers in the 15th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft out of South Hills High School in West Covina, California.

A handful of retired pro athletes have come out in recent years, including retired major leaguer Billy Bean. Since retiring from professional baseball in 1995, Bean has spoken frequently about the pressure gay athletes face to conceal their sexuality. As Major League Baseball's first Ambassador for Inclusion, Bean counseled Denson on his decision to reveal he is gay.

"Any player who happens to be gay and is a professional and has kept that secret, they just want to be judged for their baseball or football or basketball ability.

From now on when the Brewers’ Helena farm team showers after practice and games, everyone else peering through shampoo is going to be thinking,
“Is Denson checkin’ me out? Dayum! I’m no homo. He better not be ...”.

This is why girls don’t play real sports with guys with locker rooms, etc. “Brother”. Heh. That’s pretty funny.

If all Dave Denson could think about was being a switch hitter, to the point that he was depressed—until he spilled his guts to the press: “I like boys!”, maybe he really is in the wrong job.

Homosexuality is a sign of mental illness. I went to MLB dot com to post my objective conclusion. The cowards at MLB dot com removed the “comments” feature on the Denson story. In fact, MLB dot com removes the “comments” feature on many homo stories. My hunch is that the editors at MLB dot com know that their audience are American family members who detest the sin of sodomy.

Not really. No one was really defending Michael Sam when he got dumped. Twice. It was pretty much universally agreed that he sucked (well, at football too)

I hope he never gets traded to Texas. Then he would be known as the Rump Ranger.

So pitchers around the league will start throwing him high and inside, but he’ll like it, because he likes having balls thrown at his face.

Coincidentally, in Clueless, a character excused herself from tennis class because her plastic surgeon said she should avoid balls flying at her face, to which current conservative actress Staci Dash replied, “There goes her social life.”

Does anyone really give a big whoop? I certainly don’t. I’ve never heard of this guy before and, odds are, I’ll never hear of him again ... other than UNDESERVED praises for his “gayness” and “courage”.

"a first baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers' rookie affiliate in Helena, Montana"

Rookie league is the very LOWEST level of professional baseball.

Very few people make the majors after starting at that level.

Heck you can be a fairly good AAA player and STILL have the odds stacked against you making an appearance in the Show.

This guy is not going to make it very far. Sorry, ESPN.

This is a HUGE nothingburger.

Hugh Hewitt did the something similar when David Dreier was a regular guest on his show. Knowing about Dreier’s alternative lifestyle would have given Hugh’s conservative audience a better chance at deciding whether or not they wanted him as a GOP leader. Apparently Hugh doesn’t consider Guy Benson and David Dreier’s lifestyle out of the ordinary.

Denson is 22, old for the rookie level Pioneer League.

He's a 1B/DH type, yet he's hitting .244 and slugging .385.

Denson is not a prospect. He will never see the inside of Miller Park in Milwaukee without buying a ticket.

Did anyone see this story?
Seems the media needed a new spokesman for buggery.

MONTREAL – Michael Sam is stepping away from pro football.

Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by the NFL, has told the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes that he is leaving the team. He tweeted Friday that “The last 12 months have been very difficult for me, to the point where I became concerned with my mental health. Because of this I am going to step away from the game at this time.”

“these deviants” are nothing more than devices employed by the Left [to corrupt our culture and children.]

You know you’re pathetic when the only thing you have to recommend you is your proclivity to stick your genitals where they don’t belong.

You’d think after the Michael Sam debacle, this kind of story’s time would have come and gone, but the revolution never sleeps...

With Drudge posting that poll that in the U.K., half of people age 18-24 consider themselves not completely heterosexual, there are some people that care, namely the people that want to recruit the next generation into the homosexual lifestyle. “Born this way” has always been a lie. Where you stick your genitals is a choice. And if you teach children that they will be rewarded and accepted for following a certain sexual practice, you will get more of them doing it.

And now Guy Benson is appearing on Fox News all the time since he announced he was a homosexual when I don’t know if I ever saw him on Fox before. They also have that tan guy with the weak voice who said he was a homosexual on Red Eye appearing all the time now.

We’re definitely getting to the point where announcing you’re a homosexual will get you instantly promoted by companies who want to show how “inclusive” and “diverse” they are. Such rewards will only aid in recruitment. If you subsidize something, you get more of it.
