There's a new university law school course named after Freddie Gray — here's the class description

The University of Maryland law school will offer a course this upcoming semester on the arrest and resulting death of Freddie Gray, a black Baltimore resident whose death led to protests and unrest across the city.

Forty UMD students are enrolled in the course — called "Freddie Gray's Baltimore: Past, Present, and Moving Forward" — which will run for eight classes and be taught by law professors, as well as city officials. The law school announced the course Tuesday, and it already appears to have filled up.

Gray's death and the following unrest in Baltimore, the course's description states, "have highlighted and/or uncovered serious on-going social and financial dislocations within the City."

Here's more on what "Freddie Gray's Baltimore" will cover:

__________________________________________________

The course will examine the recent unrest itself and then examine the causes of, and possible solutions to, those dislocations, including an examination of problems in policing; criminal justice; housing; health care; education; poverty; and community development and joblessness. The course is not viewed by its organizers as an end in itself. Rather, it is intended to be a springboard for further student and faculty involvement in citizen and government efforts to reform law and policy in the subject matter areas listed above.

UMD may be in a unique position to address these issues.

University of Maryland is the home of Gar Alperovitz, the revisionist pseudo-historian who writes books claiming we dropped atomic bombs on a Japan that had all but surrendered for the sole reason we wanted to intimidate the USSR, and thus we deliberately started the Cold War.

So this pseudo-class comes as no surprise.

The University of Maryland is as leftwing as it gets.

They work hard to keep cars off campus.

The university library system has been converted into a leftwing cesspool where 90% of the new books acquired are rabidly leftwing.

The school has acquired HUGE amounts of land adjoining it

and is a billion dollar leftwing operation.

One of the practical applications will have the students beat their head against the walls of a paddywagon to find out the results.

In theory, this could actually make for a decent class. Teaching a law school class through the lens of a single case can be interesting and enlightening, especially if the case involved a wide range of different legal issues (as the Gray case certainly does). I took one law school class like that, and thought it was great.

In practice, there is really no question that the class will be politically-oriented drivel.

Serves me right for responding without reading the article (or even the excerpt). I thought the class was going to be related to the arrest itself (the arrest itself raised some interesting fourth amendment issues, not to mention the evidentiary and other issues related to whatever happened to Gray in the back of the van). Nope. It's pure political drivel.

The only description necessary is, “live like an outlaw, die like an outlaw.” I hope the suckers enrolled in that law school enjoy their future career which includes the phrase, “paper or plastic?”

Hopefully, some Maryland Conservative will take the course, and demand a discussion of the legal consequences of a Mayor ordering the Police to stand down, rather than protect the people & property in a Baltimore neighborhood.

That atrocity far exceeds any "wrong," even claimed in the hopelessly biased prosecution over the death of Mr. Grey.

Twerps. Oops, meant Terps.

This is just one of the thousands of reasons why schools, colleges and universities should not receive taxpayer dollars.

I believe the same field trip includes deficating on the paddy wagon so that students increase their awareness of social justice and the Occupy movement.

This is no surprise when you realize that colleges are in business to incite the ‘oppressed’ underclass to rise up against the evil ‘oppressors.’

Undergrad, mayne, but not Law school.
