Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters earlier this year that she chose to use a personal email server for “convenience,” opting to carry just one device while she served at the State Department. But her use of a personal email server for official purposes has been anything but convenient for the agencies charged with reviewing her emails for public release.
The choice has created major headaches for the agencies as they grapple with the issues raised by the situation: a cabinet-level official with access to wide sources of potentially classified information using her own email server to send and receive messages that by law are eligible for public release under the Freedom of Information Act.
While the agencies would have needed to do some of the work of vetting and reviewing her emails even if Mrs. Clinton had used a government account, Mrs. Clinton’s use of a single personal account for work and personal business has posed some unique logistical challenges.
Those challenges include getting her emails processed into the correct format for release and, for the State Department, finding documents relevant to Mrs. Clinton’s time in office in order to respond to Freedom of Information Act requests.
“The use of a private email account is unorthodox at best and seems to be an attempt to evade statutory records management and disclosure requirements at worst,” said Steven Aftergood, who directs the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists.
Mrs. Clinton’s email arrangement was legal but discouraged by both Obama administration and State Department guidance for sending unclassified information.

If this were a republican would we even be talking to Hillary? Would she not be in jail or at least removed from the race?
On the news last night watching her talk about the emails, I am thinking, you put this country through a lot of trouble and you broke the rules.
Why are you still being taken seriously? With all the other events, how are you still standing? Something stinks.
Yes and she had her own private spy organization in Libya for convenience, too. BS.
We have a pattern here with our girl Hillary. She did things that she didn’t want her fellow government employees to find out about.
Libya wasn’t a political issue. She wasn’t trying to suppress Republican voters in Libya. I think that Hillary’s actions in Libya really confused the Republicans. Hillary is a peacenik. Why is she all of a sudden worried about attacking Libya.
Libya was about money. It was about Soros and Clinton and Obama and the Democrat Party leaders filling their pockets with Qadaffi’s gold and protecting their criminal organization.
Everything that is happening would be entirely predictable by a person of average intelligence. I'm inclined to think that Hillary is not the dumbest woman in the world which leaves only the alternative.
If I were Huma Abedin I would be worrying about now. Clintons don’t go to jail, those around them do.

As an example, ask Bob McDonnell, former governor of Va. how that works if you’re a Republican.

The Washington Post reports that the federal agency that guides sentencing for former Virginia governor Robert McDonnell recommended at least 10 years in the hoosegow. He was convicted of, as the Post puts it, “lending the prestige of his office to Richmond businessman Jonnie R. Williams Sr. in exchange for $177,000 in loans, vacations and luxury items.”
But 10 years is a long time for luxury items! So how much is U.S. Senator Mark Warner going to get for dangling a judgeship in front of a Democratic state senator’s daughter in an effort to dissuade him from quitting office and helping Republicans?
This story is even more sordid. Virginia had an evenly divided senate. Democratic state senator Phillip Puckett resigned his seat — perhaps being lured out of it by job offers from Republicans — and threw it into Republican hands. That was very bad for Gov. Terry McAuliffe and his top legislative priority — expanding Medicaid under Obamacare. The allegations that Republicans had dangled job offers launched a federal probe akin to what happened with McConnell. But that’s when things got complicated.
It turned out that Democrats had been offering jobs to the state senator’s family. And not just any Democrats.
Sen. Mark Warner suggested a federal judgeship for Puckett’s daughter, even though she’d barely practiced any federal law. According to family members, he also “suggested a post for her at CGI, a high-tech firm Warner helped lure to Southwest Virginia when he was governor a decade ago.” You don’t say! That sounds very Bob McDonnell-like!
And McAuliffe’s chief of staff had basically promised Puckett the moon if he’d only stay in office.
So what happened? How many years for Warner and everyone else engaged in shenanigans? Did you guess no years? You would be correct, because apparently judgeships are less important than Rolexes. Or federal probes that entangle Democrats aren’t as cool as federal probes that entangle Republicans.
