When will Jim banish Trump supporters from FR, like he did with Giuliani advocates? [JR @ 305]
one man's opinion...

Posted on 07/25/2015 2:15:15 PM PDT by ken5050

On 4/23/2007, Jim Robinson posted a manifesto, "Giuliani as the GOP presidential nominee would be a dagger in the heart of the conservative movement" (and a knife in the back) . The thread was subtitled, "The only difference in a Liberal Rudy Giuliani and Liberal Hillary Clinton is the fact of which bathrooms they select to use and there are some who are willing to even question that.

Back in the mid to late 90’s (I believe), there were a very few openly liberal posters on this site. I think I remember one named Bill? Definitely made for some interesting back and forth.

“You purist!! How dare you post something contradicting our story line. You must be a dem troll, all the way from 1998. Didn’t you know that Trump is severely conservative because he said so when he announced... and he peed in the liberals’ cereal and made them cry./end sarcasm”

That was kind of silly and not particularly funny if this was an attempt at humor. Just sayin.....

A couple more points.

If I remember right, Giuliani wanted to be the new face of the Republican Party, ie, a big tent pro-abortion, pro-gay, pro-gun control, pro-illegal alien face. He and his establishment RINO allies and supporters wanted to move the GOP to a place that is impossible for me to go. If they had their druthers, they’d rather drop the pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-gun, pro-borders planks right out of the official GOP platform. This was an official movement within the GOP establishment (and still is).

Giuliani admits pro-choice views - RINOS: the reign of social conservatives is coming to an end

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1832403/posts

Basically, he was for all the things I’m against and he wanted to force them down my throat just like Obama, only, force it down my throat via the official (establishment) GOP party.

An infamous statement from a Giuliani backing FReeper went something like this:

“The conservatives have held their boot to the GOP’s neck for far too long. Never again will guns, abortion, and the gay agenda be important issues for Republicans.”

Regarding Trump, first, he’s not establishment GOP. He’s not going to try to move the GOP goalposts from the inside. He’s not an insider. He’s about as far out from being an establishment insider as you can possibly be. They hate him and he hates them. He’s fighting against the DC cabal just like we are. He’s hitting them right between the eyes with the unvarnished truth and he’s been effective with it. And I love him for that. Even so, if he starts leading a gay pride parade down Broadway like Giuliani did, or starts pushing for amnesty, gun control or abortion, you can bet I’ll drop him like a hot potato.

In the meantime, I’m enjoying the show.

But for the long hall, I’m all in for Cruz. Trump has sizzle, but Cruz is the real deal.

Thank you Mr. Robinson. This is why this site is the premier conservative site. You actually support honest conservatives.

I guess you will have to revise and amend your opinion, lol. Lost you by the use of a word that fits perfectly in my response.

Are you really unaware of how the term 'purist' has been used on Free Republic over the last few years?

It's a pejorative used to slam conservatives who stick to their ideals.

Sorry if I offended you with that post. However, I am also not fond of when people label and marginalize conservatives with the over-the-top hyperbole label of "purists", when they are arguing for conservatism.

When this is a pro life, pro traditional marriage, pro God, pro liberty, pro constitution conservative site that is involved in grass-roots activism, we are going to see individuals who are passionate for conservative principles and strive to get better conservatives elected. That does not make them "purists".

I concluded a few years ago that many of those on FR (certainly not a majority) who espouse “purist” views do so in order to encourage others to not vote at all in elections if the candidate does not fit their idea of perfection.

I think it's your conclusion that's flawed, not the so-called, 'purists'.

Did you ever take the time to even casually study Mitt Romney's political record? If you did, there's no possible way you could have mistaken him for a Republican, much less, a conservative.

Per his record in office, the man bears a stronger resemblance to a liberal Democrat, than even a moderate Republican. The policies he would have brought to the table as President wouldn't have varied from Obama's in any significant way - yet a cadre of terrified conservatives on this board DEMANDED that we vote for him anyway because somehow the Dem is worse.

Not only would the left have been served by every move he made in office (just as they were in Massachusetts), the GOP-e dominated liberal Congress would have rubber stamped the whole of that agenda. At this date, Republicans would now bear responsibility for every disastrous liberal policy enacted during his term.

Please explain to me how the vision of the Framers would have been served by electing such a traitor to their ideals?

One first has to accept that Romney would have somehow differed substantially from Obama to adopt the mindset of those who bared (and still bare) their fangs at us 'purists'. I reject that ridiculous assumption out of hand, due to his documented RECORD in office, which I re-post here to refresh everyone's memory:

Mitt Romney’s Dismal Liberal Record

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.

* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.

* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.

* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.

"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.

In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

[Cato Institute annual Fiscal Policy Report Card - America's Governors, 2004.]

Romney's "accomplishments".

1. Implemented/created Gay Marriage in MA

2. Supported and forced Gay Adoption in MA

3. Supported Abortion wholeheartedly

4. Raised taxes/fees over 300% while being Governor of MA

5. Implemented a state-level Cap and Trade system.

6. Supported Man-Made Global Warming

7. Supported the Brady Bill

8. Implemented a state level “Assault” Weapons Ban after the Federal AWB was allowed to expire.

9. Supported TARP

10. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Citizenship for those already here)

11. Supported McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty)

12. Implemented a socialized medicine program in MA called RomneyCare, complete with an Individual Mandate and $50 abortions.

13. Nominated 27 Democrats (out of 36 nominations) for judgeships in MA, many of them extreme left-wingers.

The amounts sound large to us, but they were chump change to Trump. Once again, Trump does most of his business in the New York area, and NYC in particular. It’s all Dem there, as I’m sure you know. Trump is indeed no fool. It was the cost of doing business for him, just like all of the other high finance businesses have done in the northeast part of our country, in particular in New York.

You just don’t want to acknowledge this reality for some reason. Business people on his level out of necessity have to contribute money to both sides, and they usually give more to whomever’s side is in power at the time. They may not like it, but as Trump said, he’s no fool.

Trump obviously reached a level of disgust and I think it was more on the foreign policy level than anything else, at first. Illegal immigrants, ISIS, China, Russia, trade treaties, especially the one with Iran, and the fact that Obama projects such an image of weakness to the world, a quality The Donald truly dislikes. Trump is not a weak man. We’ll all see who’s right about him and who is not, once he is President and if his enemies, the GOPe, Dems, and MSM don’t get rid of him first.

You know, Trump has burned a whole lot of bridges to the Dem world, to the MSM who used to love him, to the media world where he has done a lot of business, such as with his show “The Apprentice”, and he has taken financial hits by Lib organizations and businesses who have stopped doing business with him. That’s an awful lot to lose for someone you are accusing of being one of them. And that’s because Trump isn’t one of them.

He may have been too wrapped up in his businesses to pay that much attention when younger, but he’s figured it all out now, is a common sense man, and is striking out, knowing that at least financially they can’t stop him. Trump as far as I can tell, is on a crusade. I think he is unstoppable unless his enemies really hit below the belt. Even then, Trump will double down and hit back harder.

We’ll see. Trump is mortal. I am being a risktaker here, as nothing else has worked with any of the politicians we have tried to hire as Prez thus far, so I’m going outside the box with The Donald, and I think his supporters, including myself, will all be proven right about Trump.

That’s not to say that the long knives might not be able to do him in though. He is only one man. But he’s a strong one, that Trump. It will take a lot to bring him down, and like in Braveheart, I’m painting my face blue and going into the battle with him. I just hope it doesn’t end up like in Braveheart, with Wallace being disemboweled by the enemy, lol. I wouldn’t put it past his enemies to try to gut The Donald.

I am against the banning of Trump supporters on this forum, in large part because I am a Trump supporter and I like it here on Free Republic. I would not like to be banned.

I appreciate the forthrightness of your reasoning here.

As for Trump’s hair, there was a pic in one of the recent FR fundraising posts, the one where he’s leaning forward over a negotiating table with his hands on the table, which finally solved the mystery for me. The key is that he’s actually got TWO comb overs going on, not just one. He’s got the one that comes from the back of his head, but it’s buttressed by a smaller one that comes from the side of his head. There’s a seam between the two that’s usually not visible but in that particular pic you can see it. I’m an engineer and I’ve put a fair amount of thought into the mechanics of Trump’s hair, because it really is a puzzle.

The recently converted/evolved Mitt Romney looks like he has evolved back to liberalism now that he is not running. He is firmly in support of Mr. Amnesty Jeb.

Don't fool yourself. Mitt Romney NEVER converted to conservatism. Not even a little bit. He's a liberal through and through, which most of us 'purists' saw from the beginning of the race.

On the other hand, Donald Trump wrote a best selling book three years ago outlining his political positions, and you know what? They bear a mighty strong resemblance to positions that most Freepers hold.

He's not a 'recent' convert, much as the Trump haters would like us to believe.

By “used to” I meant several years back.

I've been reading here for about ten years. I don't remember John Rob ever contributing much to the general conversation. For the first few years I was a member here, I had no idea he even existed.

Maybe he went through a period where he was interested enough to comment here and there - dunno.

in my opinion if Trump is even willing to allow the GOP to believe that he is potentially willing to go third party, then he is unsuitable.

Trump has been playing in the major leagues of international business and finance for a very very long time. He's a billionaire ten times over because he's become a master at high stakes negotiations and gamesmanship.

In other words, he knows what buttons to push and threats to make, to push or pull his opponents in the direction he wants.

His statement about the possibility of going third party was a shot across the bow of the GOP-e elites. He knows they'll read that as a threat to send the Republican party into the dustbin of history, just as the Republicans did the the Whigs.

At this stage in America's history, it could really happen. Trump knows that the GOP-e knows this, and he's holding it over their heads in order to make them back off.

It gets more depressing each year..the severe lack of discourse on FR.

The Patriot who owns this site has made it clear that Free Republic is an "online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism" and by no means is "a liberal debating society." You can readily search FR to find those statements by our most gracious host. Mr. Robinson also states, "Got news for all, I'm NOT fair and balanced."

And I for one say hallelujah to his principled stand against traitors. I also find it refreshing to find a gathering spot on the web where atheism and evolution aren't tolerated. This is a pro-God, pro-Bible forum and I appreciate that those who push phoney baloney like evolution (and its junk "science" twin "global warming") are promptly ushered out of here with a righteous ZOT, often by the boss himself!

To be perfectly frank, I really don't come here for "discourse" but to get my Conservatism reaffirmed and to find out the ways and means by which we can get Patriots into office who will restore the Biblical Foundation that the Founding Fathers envisioned for the Republic.
