A federal judge has ordered the Patent and Trademark Office to cancel registration of the Washington Redskins' trademark, ruling that the team name may be disparaging to Native Americans. "Maybe," or maybe not. "Disparaging," is now against the law? Not "libel?" Is this a judge? A real "judge," or is he administrative?
And where in the hell are you gonna find someone with standing? All the native Americans I know love the name and the team.
Methinks we don't have much time...

Think about it, folks. Now that it is no longer legally protected ANYONE can print that image on any shirt along with ANY message they see fit.

The gist of the ruling is: "We're going to cancel this trademark because it MAY be offensive to someone".
Well, Barack Obama's trademark IS offensive to me - so are they going to cancel it, too?
And now that I've mentioned it, just about any trademark may be offensive to someone. So let's cancel ALL trademarks.

Long overdue and, seriously, I doubt anyone could be surprised at the outcome. As a former and longtime DC area resident, my only surprise is that it took so long to occur. But, heck, maybe with a new name they can finally start winning some games.
