Ted Cruz fights GOP approach on Obamacare subsidies
Politico ^ | 06/11/2015 | Manu Raju

Ted Cruz is planning to battle his party over Obamacare again — this time, if Senate Republicans seek to extend subsidies that could be killed by the Supreme Court as soon as this month.

In an interview with POLITICO, the 2016 presidential candidate weighed in on the high-stakes Supreme Court case that could end subsidies for millions of people who receive their health insurance through the federal exchange. A majority of Republican senators have endorsed an approach to keep those subsidies in place until September 2017, but Cruz flatly said “no” when asked if he’d sign on as well.

“I think the best legislative option is to allow states to opt out,” Cruz said in the Capitol. “I am cautiously optimistic that the Supreme Court will conclude in King vs. Burwell that the Obama IRS disregarded the plain language of the statute and acted lawlessly. And when that occurs, it will be a real opportunity for Congress to lead.”

He added: “In a perfect world, we would take that opportunity to repeal Obamacare. At a minimum, we should allow states to opt out.”

I wonder what happens under the letter of the law (as if that still mattered) from the time the Supremes rule until the time Congress betrays us. I suspect it depends on the precise wording of the Court opinion, and I hope Roberts will do the right thing and write an opinion that expands freedom as much as possible.

This is why I contribute to Cruz and will vote for him in the primary. If he or Walker aren't on the ballot in the general I probably won't vote.

Cruz gets it. Obamacare has got to go. My healthcare is between me and my Doctor.

The GOP is going into full panic defense mode for obamacare. These aare they guys that voted to repeal it numerous times back when the repeal safely couldn’t get through the Senate.

Are you talking about the same Roberts that twisted the law into a pretzel to avoid striking it down?

Cruz is dead on with this. I do not want to pay another person’s insurance premium. Noone is paying mine or a portion of mine. We want these people to get off their rear ends and go to work and quit giving them stuff. DO NOT “FIX” OBAMACARE. You liars said you would kill obamacare to get my vote then you funded it 4 straight times !! And NOW YOU WANT ME TO PAY FOR OTHER FOLKs PREMUIMS?? to FIX obamacare???? Are you nuts?? Don’t even think about it.

If we can just get Cruz past this TPA thing. I hink Rand Paul has completely blown himself out of the water by being too crazy. Ben Carson also seems to be self destructing. Jeb is a joke, I think he goes down in flames.

That's why I just said I hope he will do the right thing. I was there for the oral arguments the first time around and for the opinion, and I was shocked that Roberts betrayed the Constitution. I hope and pray that he has had time to reflect on that treasonous action and that he will do the right thing this time. I don't have much faith though. If he votes in accordance with his oath of office, I will be pleasantly surprised.

Ahhhh...how nice. Teddy's back with us little folk after he shellacking he's been getting for voting for ObamaTrade and for advocating an increase in H1B Visas.

I'll listen to Cruz again once he explains how he undoes the damage he's done by voting for ObamaTrade.

Obamacare is Cruz’s red flag he waves to distract conservative voters so he can reach around and gig them with Obamatrade.

What's wrong with the GOPe?

"A majority of Republican senators have endorsed an approach to keep those subsidies in place until September 2017"

That's what. How gawd-awful stupid are these people? Oh, yeah, they're not stupid, they're big government statists. Silly me.

If we can just get Cruz past this TPA thing.

All he has to do is come out and say that although he's for free trade, too many issues are arising. That the American people don't want this bill pushed through with invented urgency and he respects their will.

Then he can recommend the House vote it down at least until more information comes to light and the American people are comfortable with it.

“Free Trade” is a good thing.

The problem with “0bamaTrade” is that it will be a guaranteed sellout of America. It won’t be about Free Trade at all.

So, Cruz made a mistake. He should own up to it.

Yes, but it is the criticality of the vote. His Obamacare stances just now are meaningless, whereas the Obamatrade vote has the potentiality of complete destruction of the United States as a sovereign nation, literally, without exaggeration. Also he complied with the Obama agenda when he voted to allow Iran to develop atomic weapons. Of course, the bill doesn’t stipulate that, just as the Obamatrade does not stipulate its end game.

THANK YOU, Senator Cruz!!! This monstrosity of an entitlement is of the DEMOCRATS’ making, not the republicans. Yes, these “subsidies” constitute yet another wealth transfer program, and we are already going broke from rampant, out of control, entitlement programs. I don’t understand why taxpayers should be forced to pay health insurance premiums for these people? There has to be a better, market based way to make sure they can purchase health insurance.

2012 - Come on guys. We can't kill it. Not now. Let's wait until we control the Senate. Then we can really do what we want. The important thing is that you keep voting Republican.

2015 - Come on guys. We can't kill it. Not now. Let's wait until we control the White House. Then we can really do what we want. The important thing is that you keep voting Republican.

2017 - Come on guys. We can't kill it. Not now. We have built up too much good will with the American people. We don't want to loose it. Let's get some other stuff done first then we will get to that. The important thing is that you keep voting Republican.

2019 - Come on guys. Now that we don't control Congress you need to vote for more Republicans so we can finally kill it.
