McKinney Officer Resigns Amid Pool Party Investigation
NBC DFW ^ | Jun 9, 2015 | Frank Heinz

Posted on 06/09/2015 9:47:30 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Officer's resignation effectively ends internal investigation by McKinney police

"As the chief of police, I want to say to our community that the actions of Casebolt, as seen on the video, of the disturbance at the community pool, are indefensible," said Chief Greg Conley, during a news conference Tuesday afternoon. "Our policies, our training, our practice, do not support these actions. He came into the call out of control, and as the video shows, was out of control during the incident."

As Casebolt and two officers first responded to the scene, teens were said to be running from the area as officers tried to gain control of the situation

"Our citizens called us to a fight in progress and a general disturbance at the community pool. We responded. I do not condone the actions of those individuals who violated the rules of the community, showed disrespect to the security person on scene and to the officers who responded," Conley said. "However, we as a department are held to a high standard ... as we do our jobs. I support the fine men and women of the McKinney Police Department, who day in and day out, do an outstanding job on behalf of all of our citizens."

Police said nine additional officers were called to the scene and the disruption was eventually brought under control.

"I have 12 officers on the scene and 11 of them performed according to their training. They did an excellent job," Conley said. Video showing the incident sparked national scrutiny of the officer's actions. Meanwhile, Casebolt was placed on administrative leave while his actions were investigated.

Casebolt resigned Tuesday through his attorney and did not issue an apology, police said Tuesday.

The teen in the bikini taken to the ground by Casebolt was eventually released without being cited.

"I was wondering what was going through his head. Why would he even come to the scene and act in the manner in which he acted?" said Dana Bakari, whose daughter, Jahda, was at the party on Friday night.

The family lives in the Craig Ranch North neighborhood.

Casebolt's resignation effectively ends the investigation by the McKinney Police Department's Internal Affairs Division.

"We may never know, but at the same time, too, I am relieved that he's no longer at the police force here in McKinney," Dana Bakari said.

On Monday night, the Craig Ranch North Homeowners' Association sent an email to its members, saying, in part, "This is a peaceful, increasingly-diverse neighborhood that is growing and thriving because of our difference in background, race, reasons for moving here, and in many other ways."

"I just hope it doesn't shed a negative light here," Dana Bakari said.

Cornell William Brooks, president and CEO of the NAACP, released a statement Tuesday following Casebolt's resignation.

"To protect any community, law enforcement officials must respect that community. The resignation of Cpl. Eric Casebolt is a good first step, but hardly the last," Brooks said.

Brooks went on to say the NAACP, "will continue working with community members and law enforcement to ensure that no one, especially the young people of McKinney, are ever again the victims of excessive force, racial profiling and police brutality."

One person was arrested for evading arrest/detention and interference with public duties. Police said Tuesday that those charges were dropped.

McKinney police said they have reached out to the teens involved and asked if they wanted to press charges. So far only one person has responded.

NBC 5's Amanda Guerra, Ray Villeda, Don Peritz, Kevin Young and Brian Roth contributed to this report.

Yep. I’m on board with firing the Chief AND the Mayor. They rushed to judgment. They keep reporting millions of calls to fire the cop but what they fail to mention is that many calls were coming from across the country. They caved right in as fast as they could. Embarrassing.

“Interestingly, the entire community is rallying around the officer and demanding he be reinstated, and they are also calling for the chief to be fired.”

Let’s see if they can get that done.
I haven’t been paying much attention to it this morning so I haven’t seen where there’s an attempt to get him reinstated.
I’m sure he has some supporters but I tend to doubt they’re going to have any success with that.
He resigned voluntarily. Let him go.
It’s done.

Kids came from all over. It was being advertised on Twitter. How many of these kids knew the hostess? We don’t know yet. We also don’t know if they were “hood rats” but they sure behaved like them.

Her daddy is all for punishment in schools. He thinks teachers have every right to whack out of control kids. So he says on his facebook account in May. What a hypocrite.

“The officer did nothing wrong.
There is frame-by-frame critiques of his performance on the internet already.”

Oh. Well if it’s on the internet then that’s different lol.
The cop resigned. He’s gone. He left on his own and the PD let him go.

It remains that factually the officer did noting wrong and a frame by frame analysis of his actions that day only proves that point.

Cool pic. Doesn’t change the fact that the cop is gone and the incident is over.

Of the other cops, be it two or eleven, how many were approached from their rear quarter (the side their gun was holstered on) by two young males making threatening moves? Including an indication of intent to pull a weapon?

There was a graphic put up yesterday in one of the other threads showing a 5 or 6 frame (from the video) breakdown of what led to the officer drawing his weapon. Now the takedown of the bikini girl may have been excessive and unnecessary, but drawing his weapon in the face of clearly threatening moves by those two guy’s was not.

Then I’m sure he can be comforted by that.

"...He resigned voluntarily. Let him go. It’s done...."

Actually, no.

He resigned because he was under enormous pressure: His political hack chief threw him under the bus, and offered no protection to his family. His 2 girls are now being targeted for violence by black racists.

Blacks are tweeting his address to other hateful people and urging his family be attacked. He is a target now, and is now going into hiding lest he and his family are attacked physically.

So no. He did not resign "voluntarily".

How many of these kids knew the hostess?

It's irrelevant. She was throwing a party on private property and a hundred feral thugs showed up.

Would you like her to throw a party at your house without permission.

Would you like her to throw a party in your neighborhood? one that gets national publicity and your property value goes down 30%.

I really don’t see the relevance in this.
The chief made a statement that the cop was out of control.
The chief admonished the kids for their behavior.
The cop voluntarily tendered his resignation and it was accepted.
There was a rally and a march against police brutality.
There wasn’t any looting, burning, or chaos.
And now the incident is over except for anything involving the courts.
Criminal charges? I doubt that.
Monetary payout to the girl? Probably.

I’d say a major point here is that the cop voluntarily resigned. He obviously didn’t want to stay.

Yeah, that’ll do wonders for the morale of the rest of the police force, won’t it?

I think there’s now an actual (as opposed to just in the movies) emerging market for companies that provide enhanced private security services. Not at the same level as Executive Outcomes or Blackwater, but well above the typical mall cop/Paul Blart type stuff.

His family has had death threats. An actor Dennis L.A.White (never heard of him) was on twitter urging people to locate the family and beat the heck out of his little girls.

You know the police won’t go after someone advocating violence toward children if they are black.

I have no doubts he received some threatening tweets.
But the PD didn’t fire him. The hadn’t even finished their investigation.
So yes he did leave voluntarily even if the circumstances were stressful.
But in any case it’s done now.
What he did or didn’t do right o who said what to who doesn’t matter at this point with regards to this particular situation.

you are right, and sadly there are youngsters on this thread and elsewhere on FR who think that this cop was eeeevil for trying to get punks under control

These are apparently people who have never had to deal with criminal behaviour in a direct manner.

Some of them foolishly think now that the cop has left the force that the matter is “over” and that the problem is “solved”. Such youngsters have no conception of the cause/effect principle when it comes to sociological phenomena.

The idea that the problem is “solved” is childish, boorish, and elementary. “Solved” attempts to indicate finality, resolution, and a return to a status quo that is optimum.

O contraire.

Hey now, don’t you disagree with our resident expert on criminal behaviour and police brutality. Once the expert has proclaimed the problem has been solved, there is no response that can top that!

After all, the expert has invoked the...gasp....chief of POLICE. Aren’t you impressed? ;-)

“After all, the expert has invoked the...gasp....chief of POLICE. Aren’t you impressed? ;-)”

I never claimed to be an expert at anything.
And yeah I’ll take the word of the chief of police and other law enforcement professionals over a bunch of internet legal experts.

See the way it works is that the chief of police is...well...the chief of police.
He’s tasked with keeping the peace and protecting and serving the community he works in.
It’s not his responsibility nor within his job description to have a political or cultural agenda.
Some kids got out of hand, some grownups got out of hand, and 1 cop out of 12 got out of hand.
The behavior and actions of the civilians isn’t his responsibility. The behavior and actions of the cop is.
See how it works. He’s did his job.
Sorry you didn’t whatever outcome is that you wanted.
