Prosecutors do not spill their beans on the public sidewalk.
Nor really a question of being surprised or not, or what a prosecutor might or might not have said. What we have so far on this case was attributed to leaks from investigators. And other times reporters might turn up some evidence, or a prosecutor might choose to provide some information.
No set way we get information. Varies from case to case.

I'm going to guess that Hastert was being protected by the Left in the past, and now is not. No idea why.

Of course the Larry King I was referring to is not the media talking head Larry King. But he (Lawrence) was usually called Larry. As far as Dennis Hastert (not Haster), it’s not a maybe, it’s a fact.
I remember specifically being introduced to Mr Dennis Hastert by his associates Mr Lawrence King and Mr Edward Savitz back in the late 1970s during a Washington DC political "Meet & Greet" political social party where those prominent adults in attendance would drink wine,
Reading more about the Franklin Scandal I learned that many witnesses had accused the Omaha Lawrence King of flying young males and females around to parties attended by prominent people including Washington politicians. So, there's is little doubt he is the same Lawrence King the witness says he saw Hastert with in DC in the late '70s.
