Every graduation I have been to since the 1980”s have had people yell out the graduate’s name. Nothing wrong with it. In a few cases the parents, relatives and friends could not believe theirs had made it so they showed they were proud of them. The graduates even tossed their caps in the air at the end. When one of my daughters graduated, the graduates gave the principal marbles. I think they had wanted to do something else but this was their compromise.
Forgot to add something. When a daughter graduated, you can bet your boots we yelled. You see, she had missed her whole senior year due to a severe illness. She had a home teacher and really worked hard to keep up with her classmates. It was an accomplishment she did and everyone there knew her story. Just a shame that she died in 2004 from complications of Crohn’s Disease. We all made it through June 2, her birthday. We love and miss her so much.
