They couldn’t believe they were about to get a bullet in the head and burial in a nameless pit. They thought they were among the communist elitists who would be spared and given positions of power. They literally died with shock and disbelieve painted on their faces.

I read about it 35 years ago when Florida had a class that was required for high school graduation called “Americanism vs Communism”. Our teacher did an excellent job of showing the connection between Marxism and every evil -ism of the 20th century. Because of him, I never went through the teen and young adult liberal phase because I knew that all liberals were either totalitarians in disguise or useful idiots.
