Shots are believed to have been fired after as many as six people entered the Fort Benning Army base without authorization on Thursday afternoon.
The base is located in Columbus, Georgia, near the Alabama line. Fort Benning police are searching for three to five males who may be armed and are believed to be hiding in the woods on the base, according to a Facebook post from Fort Benning.
One person who discharged a firearm has been taken into custody, the Facebook post said.
The men entered the base in two vehicles, police said. Weapons were recovered from both vehicles.
Base personnel have been urged to remain indoors until the search is concluded.

Columbus has some pretty rough areas. It could just be gang activity. A lot of these gang members aren’t the brightest folks.

Most large military bases such as Ft. Benning have areas which are open. I used to take a short cut through Benning when driving from Florida to North Carolina.
Ft. Stewart and Eglin AFB are other examples. Main highways run right through them.

I heard on the radio (Tuesday) that before the Memorial Day weekend an alert for terrorist activity had been given to military bases.
Perhaps these guys are working on some old, outdated muslim calendar.

I was thinking it may be one thug vehicle chasing another thug vehicle — bad drug deal, insulted their gang, etc. I see this type activity every now and then on the interstate.
If I were to break into someplace, I would DEFINITELY go for the place where people are trained to be Airborne and/or Rangers.
