Trigger warnings, colleges, and the ‘Swaddled Generation’
Washington Post ^ | May 19, 2015 | Kathleen Parker

Those accustomed to reading or listening only to liberal commentators may not be aware of “trigger warnings” and “safe zones” on college campuses.

It seems that mostly conservative sites and writers are concerned with the increasingly draconian suppression of free speech on college campuses. But then, it is mostly conservative writers and speakers who are treated as though they’re bringing the Ebola virus rather than contrarian ideas to the sensitive ears of what we may as well name the “Swaddled Generation.”

A trigger warning is usually conveyed on a sign carried or posted near the auditorium where a speech is to be given, alerting students to the possibility that the speaker may express an idea that could trigger an emotional response. A discussion about campus rape statistics, for example, might cause a rape victim to suffer.....

.....Purdue President Mitch Daniels laid out the stakes in a telephone interview: “If universities want to embarrass themselves with their behavior, allowing people to be shouted down or disinvited, that’s their problem. But if they’re spawning a bunch of little authoritarians with an inverted view of our basic freedoms, that’s everybody’s problem.”.....

An obvious response is to wear “trigger warning” as a badge of honor. Make it a selling point: “trigger warning: not for the dogmatic or the closed-minded”.

These fools don't like the words of Jesus either, and He issues a lot of "trigger warnings."

"You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."

Matthew 12:3

"You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?"

Matthew 23:33

Kevin D. Williamson (National Review)- It is WELL WORTH a full read [visually broken into 3 small sections - so be sure to keep reading; total length no longer than a 2 page printed article]. Who are they? How do they compare to Baby Boomers, Gen Xers? What is their outlook, their options?

"Generation Vexed: The downwardly mobile Millennials may be waking up at last"

"...............Conservatives will never out-snark, out-mock, or out-tweet the popular culture that embraced Barack Obama as a semi-religious icon. But Millennials are right at the beginning of what promises to be an unpleasant, extended encounter with the facts of life, and it may be that they will soon figure out that there is more to understanding those facts than snark and emojis. Mocking them would be easy, while persuading them will prove difficult and frustrating, because conservatism, unromantic disposition that it is, is in the end an exercise in calculating a balance of human imperfections. The Millennials do not understand that — not quite yet."

Nice try (hat tip to H.G. Wells), but "maggot generation" would be still closer: constant moisture and darkness, and an unvarying diet.

Having three Millenials under my roof, I can speak with some authority that politically and sociologically, they need to be written off as a bad investment.

And I thoguht that we couldn’t do worse than the GenX’ers. These emo-hipster brats have proved me wrong.

They will revile us now, for trying to speak the truth, and they will revile us when they are older for not getting through to them.

Shoulda just spanked their shiny butts down the road to a work ethic and prosperity!

They call themselves feminists but they need a "safe space" to go to when their delicate ears are threatened by a controversial speaker. That young woman in the back with the water bottle, it looks like she is really bracing herself for something politically incorrect to be said. She seems so brave.

An obvious response is to wear “trigger warning” as a badge of honor.

Excellent Idea make a T-shirt that says:

TRIGGER WARNING

If you talk to me expect to be offended.

If anyone complains about something you have said you can replay, "Hey I warned them".

Once the College Campus was a have of Free Speech—the liberals now only want to hear their own views and no other—this will not stand. Wait for a) the next big war. b) the next big 9-11 attack on America. c) the rise of the American People. Americans always go too far in what ever they do-—Next you will see a swing right that will bring back patriotism and love of country. The next decade will look more like the 1950s than anything else.
