Is desegregation dead?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 18, 2015 | Heather Knight, Chronicle Special Report

San Francisco gives parents a say in where their children go to school — and that is leading to less diversity

[snip]

A federal judge ordered desegregation, and in 1971 San Francisco put children on buses that crisscrossed the city so they could be in multiracial schools.

The plan almost immediately ended racial isolation — but it also helped drive families out of the district and into the suburbs or into private schools. Many Chinese families resisted integration, boycotting district public schools and creating their own private “freedom schools” for their children instead.

From the 1960s to 1983, the school district enrollment plunged by 32,000 students.

Vying factions of parents filed lawsuits, and the district tried several different school assignment methods. A federal judge oversaw those efforts from 1983 to 2005, but eventually gave up and called the district’s attempts at diversification a failure. This handed control of the assignment system back to the school district...

[snip]

“If the school reflects the community, it’s not necessarily a problem,” he said. “It’s absolutely about every student being successful at every school.”

Sanchez and Van Court are not alone. Even the African American community, the force behind the historical desegregation efforts, has fallen silent.

“We really don’t have any public demand for this,” State Board of Education President Mike Kirst said about desegregation. “The courts, of course, have largely retreated in this area. And I feel no bottom-up demand for this.”

But just because everybody’s OK with the status quo doesn’t mean it’s right, said Gary Orfield, co-director of the Civil Rights Project at UCLA.....

San Francisco has purged blacks.

It otherwise is “diverse”.

This is a perfect example of liberal derangement of reality and living in a media created make believe of eternal 60’s “struggle”.

Is desegregation dead?

Apparently, we are supposed to pray, "Lord, in Thy mercy forbid that our obsession with race, vengeance, and playing God with other people's children should slack for a moment, even in the face of failure and disaster."

“If the school reflects the community, it’s not necessarily a problem,” he said. “It’s absolutely about every student being successful at every school.”

It isn't about reflection, problems, representation, tests, scores or any of that. It is solely about the money schools and administrators can get from government. Always has been.

Most parents will do whatever it takes to remove their children from classrooms disrupted continually by feral children from belligerent shiftless parents claiming victim hood as an excuse for a breakdown of respect for authority and the value of education

It’s interesting that although despite how much liberals believe the minorities are mistreated by the white population, they want to make sure they follow them to wherever they may go.

How dare those parents trying to give their children a quality education.

Why, that’s against liberal principles....”everyone sits in the boiling vat of sh*t, except we superiors...”

CW-II is coming, and we know where the liberals live.

The aura of complete fantasy, which has largely governed educational policy debates with respect to race & ethnicity, since the middle of the last century, continues. The real losers are not affluent whites & far east Asians, as many of the more naive imagine, but those whom “desegregation”—basically a made up word to describe a largely under-analyzed goal—was intended to help.

I am not suggesting that all education has not suffered; to be sure it has. But consider the terrible effect on certain families. (Keeping Minorities Dependent.)

“We really don’t have any public demand for this,”

As if our masters care what the public wants.

They have shown repeatedly over recent years that they care not at all for what the public wants.

And to think, over 50% of every state’s budget goes to education, federal $$$ (and strings/dictates) are on top of that.

A very expensive mess - actually criminal.

San Francisco has purged blacks.

Seriously? I thought it was "breeders" in general have been purged, the city making it very hard to raise a family there.

You are so right. Here in the Metro Atlanta area you can drive through the tony neighborhoods when school lets out and its all black kids getting on the bus. They don’t live there they just get bussed into the schools. So all the whites just send their kids to private school. Its insane.

Yea, I had a friend that bought a very nice house in Antioch and was paying an extra one percent in property tax for good schools to be built. Never got the good schools and had to put her daughter in private school. The housing. Busted and her gated community became home to some section eights, drugs, burglaries, etc.

The leftists fought “separate but equal” (i.e., equal funding) schools. Only forced integration would do. The inevitable result: separate “but equal.”

That’s because parents are not going to leave their children in government schools where they have no chance to learn, let alone leave them in an environment where they will be beat up. Screw political correctness and diversity; celebrate excellence and keeping your children safe!

De jure segregation is dead. De facto segregation, frequently self-segregation, will go on.

One of the girls who desegregated Central High in Little Rock came back to give a talk at the school.

The first thing she noticed was all the black students had their heads on the desk and were not listening.

She then realized she put my life on the line, to let black kids go to white schools, so they could put their heads on the desk and not learn.

Her actual words printed were “I went through HELL for this?”
