Attempt to block same-sex marriages in Texas is turned back
Washington Post ^ | 05/15/2015 | Sandya Somashekhar

The Texas legislature early Friday failed to advance a proposal to prohibit local officials from granting marriage licenses to gay couples, a measure viewed as an effort to preempt an expected U.S. Supreme Court ruling next month regarding gay unions.

The measure died when a Republican campaign to push it through the Texas House before a midnight deadline was stymied by Democratic delaying tactics.

If the measure had reached the floor, it appeared to have sufficient support to clear the Republican-controlled chamber.

“Texas? Say it ain’t so.”

We already have, in our state constitution, the definition of marriage for our state - one man, one woman.

This bill goes further to prevent any local officials from granting marriage licenses to homosexual couples. A judge somewhere decided to marry a homosexual couple (two women), and the state had a fit he did that and the state attorney general revoked that marriage. So, this bill is to prevent that happening again.

“Only two things come from Texas, Steers and Queers.”

That is so preposterous and untrue, if you say that out loud in Texas, be prepared to fight a duel and you will lose.

You lose 100% of the fights you never fight.

I'm going to continue to work on getting rid of Strauss.

Maybe it isn't, but I view despair as a sin, and try not to give up.

I will note that quote was used in two movies.

Full Metal Jacket - They did use Texas
An Officer and a Gentleman - They used Oklahoma

Slowly but aggressively the nation is going either faggot or faggot sympathetic.

The Pro-Gay media is pumping the homosexual brainwashing into the entertainment streams and have been for quite awhile. That is why the public is changing it's position.

If they would show the truth, like this faggot that tried to infect 30 people with AIDS, then people would not be so kindly towards them, but they deliberately keep that stuff off the radar screen.

They have a propaganda war to run, you know.

Everyone of Straus’ lieutenants should be primaries and this should be exhibit #1.

But. The Conservatives in the Texas House fight all wrong. Straus sets up 2-3 primary opponents each election season against visible conservatives. They all freak out and the conservative movement spends all its primary money defending those seats. It’s a win-win for Straus. He picks off a seat, great. If not, conservatives played defense another cycle: great!

It’s a great strategy and it would work even better against Straus himself because it’s essentially an insurgent strategy. If conservatives propped up 20 candidates against Straus’ lieutenants and gave them 50 grand each, it would change the House in just a few election cycles. For that 1 million dollars, Straus would have to spend 5 million to defend.

Even before the tide changed for Straus, it would change business as usual. If Straus knew he was going to be spending several million defending his cronies in a few months, do you think he’d give those primary challengers this kind of ammo?

Besides, win or lose, 20 new conservative faces this cycle, 20 next cycle, and next thing you know, conservatives have a bench.

Let me put it a different way. For me, it has been a learning process to pace myself. I mean the days of responding with instantaneous gullibility over some show down or another are so over.

To believe that by midnight on a certain night that gay marriage would be blocked in the state of TEXAS would be a thrill, right? No. Because I know Joe Strauss. (Not personally, but you know who runs the legislation in Austin.)

Or, how about this one. The senate holds off Obama in the cloture vote, reportedly because the Democrats refused the full package that McConnell ties into that vote. I should be thrilled, right? No. Because I know who will cave. And, sure enough, McConnell caves. Within 24 hours. (Spit)

Go through enough of these thrill inducing moments that come to nothing or blow up probably 80% of the time, and you learn to pace the output of your glee manifold.

I like the real deal. I like outcomes. I wait for the real deal in the outcome. Then I am thrilled as punch.

One question. Where is Dewhurst today?

I think we did a good job of isolating him, taking our time to scope out how it was going to get done, and putting in the time and effort to actually get rid of him.

Dewhurst didn't go away overnight. It took years of effort.

It takes a LOT of effort.

I even wound up running the 'Boot Dewhurst' thread list here on FR to help coordinate getting rid of Dewhurst.

I was just a tiny part of a very large effort.

So don't give up too quickly. This stuff takes YEARS to work.

But it does work, if the fight is joined, and the hours put into volunteering.

We've got about 2 years to work out a plan to get rid of Strauss.

Don't worry about believing anything, just join the fight and work hard to get rid of him.

Just your attitude of getting rid of Strauss, and helping to install the mindset helps.

Welcome to the long slog. ;)

Unfortunately there are still Rick Perry REPUBLICANS dominating the Texas House (including its Speaker) and while the Democrats may have stalled the bill do not think for a minute that there were a LOT OF REPUBLICANS helping them - often my having their staffs make “drafting errors” or by making ‘mistakes’ in procedures. We saw the same thing two years ago when Wendy Davis managed to run out the clock on an abortion bill the Republican leaders didn’t want.

We managed to purge the State Senate of their Rick Perry clone, and thankfully Rick Perry himself is gone, but his people are STILL holding power in the State House and very little has been accomplished this year because of them.

I ran against one of Straus’ young cronies in the primary last time. I was told if I got in, money would be there to help. So. I got in. Then Straus orchestrated a primary against Jonathan Stickland, and that’s where all of the conservative dollars went.

I was left high and dry. I expected help after the filing period ended on Dec. 9 and before the end of Dec’ reporting period. As Dec moved on and no money showed, that really tanked things. Plans that were partially in motion had to be scrapped at a cost. To make up, I had to kill radio ads. The incumbent spent $40 K on radio ads during every Rush commercial break in two markets for all of Feb. Uncontested. That’s hard to beat in a primary where likely 40-50% of voters tune into Rush at some point during the month.

Still, Team Straus orchestrated 50 PACs to donate enough money that the incumbent outspent me 7:1. Just to be on the safe side. Imagine if he had to do that in dozens of campaigns.

I’m not giving up the fight. But, I have seen the battlefield up close and ugly. We conservatives are fighting this battle wrong. We should be funding insurgent campaigns, not defending against them from the establishment.

Who promised funding and then pulled out? That needs answered first.

It didn't just happen 'because Strauss'.

Name some names. If I promise money, the money is already earmarked, like the money I'm spending on FR or the money that I'm sending to the Cruz camp.

It doesn't go anywhere else.
