Investigators of Tuesday's deadly Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia reportedly have obtained a search warrant for the cell phone records of the train engineer in an effort to determine if he was distracted in the moments leading up to the fatal crash.
The Inquirer reported that police officials had discussed the possibility of pressing charges against Bostian as early in the investigation as Wednesday morning. However, the Philadelphia District Attorney's office decided there had not been enough evidence collected to do so.

Hard to imagine that he could be sleeping since they just pulled out of 30'th street station minutes earlier and there were lots of signals and switches between 30th street and the crash site. Plus, it wasn't horribly late in the night and he's young.
I don't know why it would be so hard to accept the simplest explanation here. This is almost the exact same scenario we saw in a NYC commuter train derailment in 2013, and in that case it was determined to be a drowsy engineer.
Train engineers often work very erratic schedules. The NYC crash I referenced in my last post took place on a normal Saturday morning, if I remember correctly.
Maybe he was gripping the handle too hard..................
Or is this another case of a bored, wild and crazy engineer?
