The fallout from the “Deflategate” report released Wednesday remains very much up in the air (sorry), with most informed opinion pointing to at least a several-game suspension for quarterback Tom Brady. The media coverage of the report has focused largely on the highly-qualified language of its conclusion (“more probable than not” that Patriots staff cheated, and that Brady “was at least generally aware”), rather than on the far more damning details of the report.
Patriots (and Brady) apologists like to point to this language as an indication that the report doesn’t meet the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard of proof, but fail to note that in an actual court proceeding, Brady would not have been able to refuse to provide email, texts and other documents, and the Patriots could not have refused to produce a key witness for followup questions, or demanded for them to submit “in advance the subjects we proposed to cover,”and to “submit written interrogatories.”

How about putting it on the Refs and other NFL authorities for not knowing the condition of the balls, if there was a problem? It's the same as with some of the abuse charges....the NFL should worry about the future, not try to fix the past.
Tom Brady should be forced to sit out a few games this season.
Strip the Patriots of the Super Bowl title, suspend Brady. Maybe ban them from several future Super Bowls. The NFL needs to do something serious and concrete to make clear that integrity of the game is important.
Goodell already set the precedent with the Saints for “Bounty-Gate”.
Why is this an issue? Isn’t it possible the balls were filled in warmer conditions and then became colder hence the drop in pressure? Furthermore, were they not playing with the same balls? I could see if the Pats got the low inflation balls and the opposition got the higher inflated but that did not happen. Even if the balls were replaced with Nerf Dog Spiral Squeak Footballs, they still used the same balls.

Each team has its own set of balls used during the games. The Pats only used theirs and the Colts only used their own.

Apparently the Colts forgot to bring their balls. Sorry, couldn't resist.
I can make solid argument that it did make a difference. One fumble or one dropped pass against Baltimore in the playoffs, and they lose that game. It was decided on the last drive with the Ravens in the lead through the second half. It wouldn’t have made a damn bit of difference against the Colts, and one would assume they did not pull the same shenanigan at the Super Bowl.
It makes no sense to say it makes no difference in their performance. There’s a reason the rule is there, and there’s a reason the Pats made a signifiant effort to deceive the refs by moving the balls after they are tested into a rest room to do the deed. If it makes no difference that effort would not have been made.
It is hilarious watching people frothing at the mouth over this in their righteous, spittle-lipped anger, when it really boils down to them having the emotional maturity of a 16 year-old watching their team lose, and saying that the referees had it out for them, or the league wanted them to win, or...they cheated.
It is a giant circle-jerk for the vast majority of people all worked up over it.
So, let them reap the benefits of cheating or not?
The best point I heard made today about this is that the book about Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State of the United States, selling access and favor for millions of dollars to despots around the world is 254 pages long. The Wells Investigation Report into whether the Patriots slightly deflated footballs is 243 pages. Now guess which one of these America cares more about....

If one reads the report they’ll see that one of the Colt’s balls tested at halftime was below the 12.5 legal limit, too. Two different gauges showed two different values. There was obviously no calibration of the gauges or any quality standards when it came to measuring the footballs.
I hope that people calling for severe punishment are never convicted with such flimsy evidence.
Nah... If the NFL has a “broken process” (no process to check the balls)...then the problem is owned by the NFL.
If that SB victory is left standing, Pro Football slides down to the same level as Pro Wrestling.

The Colts have been dead to me since 1984.
And I don’t much care for the Pats either.
The Little Leaguers were punished because of indisputable facts.
Brady and the Patriots “probably” erred, which means they may not have.
