I see more young men acting swishy as each year passes. The difference between now and when I was in school in the ‘60’s is remarkable. This is likely do to a lack of roll models. We had Charlton Hesston, John Wayne and our fathers, who fought in WW2. Today they have Justin Bieber, Leonard DeCaprio and likely no father.
I don’t think there are necessarily any more gay people, just men who act feminized.
2 gays and 1 lesbian that I know of when I was in school back in the early 80s. It was a school with some 400 high schoolers. None of them were “out” back then and only 1 of them was obvious.
I still talk to the one who was obvious but we grew up together. He was friends with my sister and practically lived at our house when I was a kid.
