The Maryland parents who let their “free-range” kids walk home alone and were found responsible of unsubstantiated child neglect are under fire again for leaving the children unsupervised in a park.

Child Protective Services is investigating Danielle and Alexander Meitiv after their children were found alone in a Silver Springs park Sunday, NBC Washington reported.

If my parents raised me today they would be in prison. From the age of about 5 boys played unsupervised. Today the government is using taxpayer funds to criminalize these parents.

” If my parents raised me today they would be in prison.”

Mine, yours, and millions of others.

We used to put aerosol cans in fires and shoot them with rifles to watch them explode.

We hiked in the forests carrying rifles.

I daresay many neighborhoods are a lot less safe than they were when we were kids.

As for this ...

” found responsible of unsubstantiated child neglect”

... how can you be found responsible for something unsubstantiated?

boy howdy, me too.

I have been known to hop a Rock Island freight car, ride it a few miles out, then hop out where they slowed and walk back down the rails... putting pennies on the track on the way back to pick up next time.

If letting your children play in the park is now a criminal offense, every American family needs to be behind bars.

I think we’re alone now, doesn’t seem to be anyone around!
I think we’re alone now, the beating of our hearts is the only sound!!

Given how much media attention this has gotten, and that tragically there are dangerous and ill people out there who read the newspapers and listen to the news, I’d be very worried at this point leaving these children unsupervised.

You were clearly a budding militia member and needed to be taken away from your parents and raised by the state collective. sarc/

Teaching pre-teen kids self-reliance by leaving them unsupervised with the creeps in public parks? There has to be a better way.

At least they are not giving their kids a Big Gulp.

These nosy neighbors who habitually interfere with good parenting need to mind their own business. “It Takes a Village” was a political tome supporting communism, not a statement of fact.

My thoughts exactly. but the low info voter won't see this. All they will hear is "responsible for" and "child neglect" and immediately it will be obvious that these are horrible child beating, abusive parents.

Prosecutorial discretion writ large. They are harassing these people because they outed the ridiculousness of it all to begin with.

If these laws or ordinances were enforced where I live, there would be hundreds of parents in legal trouble every day - most of them blacks by the way.

When I was 12, i started going into the city by myself, even walking into screwed up hoods’. By that time, i developed a radar or street sense so i could deal with different types of people in odd situations. The next year, I stopped taking the school bus as most of the clowns I rode with were a-holes whom I always got into fights with. Public transportation is a snapshot of society and perfect training ground for kids to see what they will face in the real world.

The boys would go over to the neighbor's barn and light farts.

To a large extent this is about concocting false issues about white people. You know there are too many minorities under DCF scrutiny, we must have (and makeup stuff) to balance that with white folks.

I went to a building site a couple of years ago. The developer had just bulldozed it to build about 50 new homes. I picked up a bucket of small rocks to edge my garden. A neighbor called police on me. Even the policeman was disgusted.
