You’d need a pretty fat wire. The battery would no longer be the weak link in the chain, exposing other weak links.
Check out your car battery .... (count the cells).
“Youd need a pretty fat wire. The battery would no longer be the weak link in the chain, exposing other weak links.”
Tesla fast charge is 170 miles in 30 minutes.
How much energy do you have to put thru the charger to accomplish that?
How much voltage would you need?
Tesla fast charge is 170 miles in 30 minutes.
Tesla Home Fast Charge Parameters:
Breaker rating will determine charge time. The Roadster can draw 80% of the Breaker Amperage.
Breaker Rating (Amps):(Amps) Approximate:Charge Time (hours)
90 70 4
80 64 4.2
70 56 4.7
60 48 5
50 40 6
“”We accidentally discovered that a simple solution is to use graphite, which is basically carbon.”
Well, there’s the problem right there. It uses carbon and everyone knows carbon is evil.
WHOEVER has the courage to invest in this tech....could eat the other battery companies alive and in very short order
I see an IPO....to break all IPO records!!
given their light weight...one could seemingly have a 100 amp hour battery that takes up less space and weighs less than an iphone
sign me UP!
Me thinks, the first long distance electric cars powered by this battery, will appear in the country of Hongjie Dai’s ancestry. In the mean time, Audi has a 600 mile electric car ready to go.
Graphene is only able to be produced in microscopic amounts and is as yet hugely expensive.
I’ve always thot a quick change battery pack was the slick way to go. Drive into the battery station and park the empty battery on a rack. The empty can take as long as it wants to recharge. Carousel swings a fresh pack into place and you’re on your way. Works with industrial gas. No one waits for their oxy, acetyl, etc. bottles to be refilled. We just swap empties for fulls. Couldn’d be faster.
This intriguing article omits one fact we all want to know - what is the energy density? In other words, how many watt/hours can be stored in a pound of battery?
Liquid fuel recharge is at least 350 miles in less than 5 minutes. Liquid fuel may safely be stored in inexpensive containers.
I mention this so that people don’t lose track of standards.
LOL! Kramer!
[[I want one configured for my Canon DSLR]]
Me too- my batter cost over $150
Stanford University scientists have invented the first high-performance aluminum battery that’s fast-charging, long-lasting and inexpensive.
...
Really? Where can I buy this wondrous inexpensive battery?
That question may still be up for grabs considering that we're still in prototype mode.
Probably a stupid question, but given the recent excitement over graphENE
...
There’s been incredible excitement over graphene for more than a decade. It provides plenty of money for researches, but close to zero commercial products.
I remember when I was looking for a extra battery for my 5DII...on ebay..and amazon.
Due to the fine video available from that camera and the extreme demands of video on battery “life” per charge...there were.... ..a total of 2 such batteries available at anywhere near retail price..
