Despite being vehemently opposed to Obamacare, Ted Cruz is signing up for insurance under President Obama’s health care law.
The Texas Republican Senator and newly-announced presidential candidate, known for his staunch opposition to the Affordable Care Act, told CNN on Tuesday that he will be joining the millions of Americans enrolled in insurance under the law.

Why should I go through the time, trouble, and expense to get a medical sharing ministries or obtain a waiver when my medical insurance is absolutely no business of the federal government whatsoever?
Obamacare is patently unconstitutional and should be rejected as such at the state level. Not sure his tactic helps that cause.

They don’t have money for health insurance? The salary of a US Senator is $174,000 a year. His wive’s salary before she quit her job was significantly greater than that. They didn’t save up any money before she quit? Even if they didn’t, he can’t buy private insurance with his $174K salary?
It sounds like Ted is saying “Yeah sure Obamacare is unconstitutional, and the worst thing that ever happened to the US but, hey, I’m saving money”. If he had the courage of his convictions he would pay for health insurance out of his own pocket, or even go without.
The states are to reject and nullify Obamacare and other unconstitutional federal acts. Not sure this tactic helps that cause. Try not to get too upset about this as a valid and relevant issue to his "political statement".
Also, don't get yourself too tangled up with he fact that you don't need to submit to an unconstitutional law to show it is unconstitutional. He seems to want to show how bad a law it is and how it doesn't work. But that's trying to prove Obamacare was the wrong way to do the wrong thing. Leaves open the possibility of a right way to do the wrong thing. Federally socialized medicine in whatever form is the wrong thing and patently unconstitutional. You don't need to sign up to prove that.

Who said he’s not paying for it out of his own pocket? He never said he is accepting a subsidy. Why do you think he is?
Regardless, if her leave of absence makes her pay the whole premium amount without company kick-in, the premiums for the four could be easily 2500/month. Ted makes about 175K/year before taxes. Naturally they should be able to get a better zerocare premium than 30K/yr?
Worth a try. The issue, as always, comes down to money - in this case federal funding of the states.
The fight for freedom isn’t just some kind of sentimental mush. Real blood was spilled and real lives were lost when we decided to nullify unjust English law for the sake of living free lives. Freedom is still as valuable as it ever was.
So the financial dependency versus freedom from unjust laws is as relevant today as it was 250 years ago.
True. They could most certainly find a plan on one of the exchanges (either DC or Texas) for less than the cost of COBRA.

Of course it’s unconstitutional, notwithstanding the views of our illustrious judicial branch. And to date, no states that I’m aware of have taken action to nullify it. Nor do I expect any to do so.
We’ll see if Ted Cruz’ tactics bear fruit. You have to set the trap before you can spring it.

You do realize that Senator Cruz and his family are already for the VERY heavily subsidized federal employee’s government health insurance due to his employment in Congress? Obama and the corrupt ‘RATS in Congress exempted federal employees and Congress critters from having to sign up for Obamacare.
Among the MANY things this absolutely brilliant move does is to point out the hypocrisy of the ‘RATS.
Ted Cruz is RELENTLESS. The ‘RATS, the mainstream media and the GOP establishment have every reason to fear him. He represents an existential threat to their rule and overlord status.

This move by Cruz is way “over your head”, you just don’t “get it” and you certainly don’t understand the brilliance of this move.

Nullification has its proponents, I just don’t happen to be one. If things in a state have eroded to the point where widespread nullification is achievable, then you’re already at the threshold of secession. I hope things never devolve to that point.
I'm suggesting that between his Senate stipend and any savings left over from his wife's seven figure Goldman Sachs job, he could probably scrape by on COBRA or the individual non-exchange market between now and 2016. And if he can't, he can definitely afford the ObamaCare individual penalty.
Things have changed under zerocare. My boss, whose wife *could* insure herself and their three kids, but for a *way* bigger premium through her company, had to pay a $100/wk surcharge on top of his premium for the five for her not insuring herself when she could.
Good deal.
