At least 19 people have been killed in Tunisia after two gunmen stormed the Bardo national museum – one of the country’s leading tourist attractions in the capital, Tunis – sparking a three-hour hostage siege.
Tunisia’s prime minister, Habib Essid, said on Wednesday afternoon that 17 of the dead were foreigners – from Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland – calling the attack a cowardly assault targeting the economy.
Three hours after the attack started at about midday local time (11am GMT), an interior ministry spokesman said two gunmen had been killed, as well as one security officer, and that all hostages had been freed.
Poland’s foreign ministry said that three Poles were among the six wounded.
The Bardo, which includes one of the world’s largest collections of Roman mosaics, is one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions.

A Rhodes scholar should be in school this time of year, studying like mad, not tooling around the third world with a camera.
Americans? (continental) Europeans? The latter tends toward stupidity, the former towards insanity. Tourists? I’ve lived near tourist attractions nearly all my life, and have a healthy dislike for anyone who spends thousands of dollars/euros just to take pictures of themselves next to famous sites and then throw trash around and bother the locals.
...and as naive as politically correct, diversity is our strength, Coexist, Islam is peace propaganda could make them. I don’t blame the victims, I blame Bush/Obama’s ROP and leftist media/education/entertainment.

I really like Frenchmen one-on-one. While I avert my eyes from the Fraulein in the skin-tight outfit asking me for directions, I do politely give her the directions. But Europe deserves to be bashed. In the previous century, European myopia and wrongheadedness has lead to the deaths of millions of Europeans, Asians, Africans, and the EU types still think that they are the wise elders, directing the benighted towards world peace, completely unaware of their own contradictions.
I like Turkey, lovely country and great people. Istanbul is an amazing city.
LOL, what if the armed person was a Brit, Canuck, Aussie, Irish, Kiwi, S African......surely we Brits and Commonwealth are OK with a gun.
