The moon logo associated with Islam, it turns out, was stolen from Byzantine Christianity by the Sultans after the conquest of Constantinople.
There is no evidence that there was a Quraysh tribe, that there was ever a specific individual named Muhammad (it is a title, not a proper name), or that this tribe or person worshipped the moon.
Much of what we "know" about Islam, after some critical analysis, turns out to be unsubstantiated.
Yes, but we have this drawing of Muhammad:

Hmm. You’ve given me something to ponder. I did a brief search after reading your comment about Allah not being specifically a moon deity and I did find a website that mentioned exactly what you had said. The tone on that one site (Wesley Muhammad, PhD) did bother me though. He was snide and that always causes me to deduct credibility points. Since I am currently studying the Koran, I will search for more such information about that and also the history of Mohammad as a fictional or a real historical figure.
I do think that the historical origins are not so important to us in current times as the perceived reality of those origins. The terrorists are acting on that perception and we need to understand what’s in their minds. I have never had a yearning to study anything about the Middle East, but I think we have reached a point now that everyone should seek at least some understanding of why they want to destroy us.
Prior to Mohammed there was a Quraysh Moon Diety named Allah. After his conquest of the Quraysh tribe, Mohammed made Allah the Monotheistic entity that has no son.
