I forget what the exact name of their movement was and I'm too lazy to dig out my old college notes and look (actually, I'm afraid I'll have my head in there the rest of the night), but the acronym was APRA, and the adherents were called Apristas.

Very interesting! I have always been amused by the fact that many of the people who espoused these nativist cults were themselves of European descent. I imagine that they feel that participating in something like this purges them of their Europeanness.
I’ll never forget a photo I saw of the probably pure-Spanish blooded Alvaro Garcia, the VP of Bolivia under the odious Morales and a supporter in its day of a Marxist indigenist guerrilla group, standing primly at some indigenist ceremony dressed in a nice business suit and holding a freeze-dried baby llama in his arms. He looked as if even he realized how ridiculous this was.
