AP sues State Department, seeking access to Clinton records

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Associated Press filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the State Department to force the release of email correspondence and government documents from Hillary Rodham Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.

The legal action comes after repeated requests filed under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act have gone unfulfilled. They include one request AP made five years ago and others pending since the summer of 2013.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, comes a day after Clinton broke her silence about her use of a private email account while secretary of state. The FOIA requests and lawsuit seek materials related to her public and private calendars, correspondence involving longtime aides likely to play key roles in her expected campaign for president, and Clinton-related emails about the Osama bin Laden raid and National Security Agency surveillance practices.

"After careful deliberation and exhausting our other options, The Associated Press is taking the necessary legal steps to gain access to these important documents, which will shed light on actions by the State Department and former Secretary Clinton, a presumptive 2016 presidential candidate, during some of the most significant issues of our time," said Karen Kaiser, AP's general counsel.

"The press is a proxy for the people, and AP will continue its pursuit of vital information that's in the public interest through this action and future open records requests," she said.

State Department spokesman Alec Gerlach declined to comment. He had previously cited the department's heavy annual load of FOIA requests — 19,000 last year — in saying that the department "does its best to meet its FOIA responsibilities." He said the department takes requests "first in, first out," but noted that timing depends on "the complexity of the request."

Throughout all the years of controlling, browbeating and intimidation, these outlets for so-called news have quietly and obediently taken their lashes - even when they didn’t do anything wrong but still did not meet the Clinton Test of complete and utter submission.

Privately, they didn’t like it one damned bit. They smell blood in the water now - and it is hers. This won’t go away.

This could end it all for Shillary. Gowdy seemed to punt to Congress on this matter, him being limited ONLY to emails involving discussion of Libya & Benghazi. WHAT ABOUT EGYPT, MORSI, HUMA ABEDIN, ETC???

Hey AP, would you please SUE State Dept. employee Huma Abedin for HER emails, please?

Look for surreptitious removal and replacement of a ‘crashed’ hard drive that just suddenly broke...............

What’s the betting that there is conversations about Obama in a bad light plus conversations with the fairy boy in chief.

This proves that Hillary! is destined for the trashpile of soon-to-be-former Presidential candidates; if AP is going after her, the fix is in. It doesn’t mean AP has suddenly rediscovered its original purpose, of course, only that the Powers Above have decided Hillary! must be replaced by someone else, though they have not yet fully shown their hand on whom the replacement might be.

They are doing this at the behest of Liz Warren. AP has been told to go after Hillary. I hope all of Hillary’s supporters take note of this and remember when it comes time to vote in November 2016.

Pointless show. She’s not quite stupid enough to turn over the incriminating emails.

Has anyone asked yet about her use of IM and text to communicate? As much as she was on that Blackberry you know there was a lot more than e-mail being used. Aren't those archived some where? What system did she use... Did she have her own IM/text server? I doubt it...

It was shocking this morning. Even Andrea Mitchell was very negative about hillary's attitude and her manipulated arrogant press conference. (my words, not Mitchell's)

As an aside...NBC news has been somewhat objective with Brian Williams gone. Could it be they'll do real objective news now that they're under the microscope?

Either Obama forced AP to do this to bump her out of the way for his future replacement...

OR

Relevant and damning emails are securely erased already, and they’re doing this in a backdoor coordination with Clinton.

I trust no party involved.

Nice of the media lapdogs.....give them enough time to do the proper housecleaning before they file suit.

What Difference Does It Make??? She already said she deleted all her “personal stuff”. A Republican would be in handcuffs by now.
