Obama slams Walker's right-to-work law [Has Walker moved Wisconsin into the Red column?]
Washington Examiner ^ | March 9, 2015 | Rebecca Berg

In a sharp jab at Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, President Obama on Monday criticized Wisconsin's newly-signed law to prevent workers from being obliged to pay union dues as a "sustained, coordinated assault on unions, led by powerful interests and their allies in government."

"I'm deeply disappointed that a new anti-worker law in Wisconsin will WEAKEN, rather than strengthen workers in the new economy," Obama said. "Wisconsin is a state built by labor, with a proud pro-worker past. So even as its governor claims victory over working Americans, I'd encourage him to try and score a victory for working Americans — by taking meaningful action to raise their wages and offer them the security of paid leave."

"That's how you give hardworking middle-class families a fair shot in the new economy — not by stripping their rights in the workplace, but by offering them all the tools they need to get ahead," the president added.....

...... The Assembly passed it Friday morning on a party line vote with all Republicans in favor and all Democrats against.

“What we`re gonna be seeing is a WEAKENING of the power of labor over the next couple years and along with that the WEAKENING of the power of the Democratic Party.

anti-worker...isn’t that forcing a worker into a union who’s political donations fund a political party they disagree with????///

Apparently women can have choice but not workers.

First the voters did. We got one of the US senate seats by electing Ron Johnson, a regular business man. We finally took back the wi senate and have 2/3 of the assembly. We took back the governorship from Diamond Jim Doyle who chose not to run on his horrible record. We won a 4-3 margin electing a conservative wi scotus justice, and defended the margin a couple times since that switchover.

They are there because the voters have put them there , despite the bussed in chicago thug votes and the democrat illegals voting for people the dems know haven’t voted. Or voted twice.

I heartily applaud and thank you all for the steep hill that you've climbed (including the hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country who stood with Wisconsinites both emotionally and financially).

Walker is a severely compassionate conservative. Just ask Rinsing Priapus or Paul Ryan.

Obama’s hit on Walker is a compliment. It shows that Walker is doing the right thing.

3-10-2015: AP “....The Republican wave in the November elections left many unions nationwide looking exceptionally vulnerable. And now with many legislative sessions just beginning around the U.S., nearly 800 union-related bills have been proposed in statehouses. That’s according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.”

So I’m to take the word of two people you claim think Walker is a compassionate conservative rather than make my own opinion based on what the man actually does...

Got it...rolling eyes...

Btw, the RNC chairman did a heck of a job last election cycle...

I guess that is meaningless since he isn’t a purist...

You’re entitled to your opinion. Mine is based on what he’s saying. In the past couple of weeks, he’s weaseled on scamnesty (foreign invasion by undocumented Democrats) and ethanol subsidies (wealth redistribution).

Socialist lite is still socialist.

LoL...so Walker is now a socialist...

What is the name of the alternative universe you live in...

Maybe you failed to notice the topic of the post...

Right to work and weaken the union grip on state politics...

that must be the new definition of socialism...

The Right-to-Work Fight You Aren't Hearing About [in New Mexico] [FR thread]

...Tamara Kay, a professor in the sociology department at the University of New Mexico, criticized right-to-work laws as "kindergarten math."

"Much of the focus on fights over right-to-work laws has been on Rust Belt states like Michigan, Indiana, and now Wisconsin, as its governor and likely presidential candidate Scott Walker signed a right-to-work bill Monday.

But there's also a high stakes showdown underway in New Mexico. Late last month, the state's House of Representatives passed a right-to-work bill, setting up a face-off with the Senate, which could raise the profile of Republican Gov. Susana Martinez, positioning her as a Walker-esque rising star for the GOP who is unafraid of challenging big labor.

Right-to-work laws prevent unions and employers from requiring that employees join a union or pay dues for representation. On the surface, the debate in New Mexico seems peculiar. In 2014, only 5.7 percent of workers in the state were members of a union and only 7.4 percent were represented by one, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But for the first time in more than sixty years, Republicans took control of the state's House of Representatives last year, and they re-elected Martinez. In her state of the state address, Martinez sold the policy as a matter of fairness and as a way to save money."...............

Saving the employee's money I might add, and by extension reducing the automatic cash flow to DNC Kandidates via Union Deduktions/Redistribution in the form of Politikal Kontributions... The Komrades are not happy... Brilliant.

Wealth redistribution through taxpayer subsidies of ethanol is socialism.

Redistributing the nation’s wealth to illegal foreign invaders through scamnesty (including welfare benefits, free housing, free education, etc.) is socialism.

I may hold my nose and vote for Walker as the lesser of two evils (which I won’t do if Bush, Christie, or Rubio is the nominee). However, I won’t pretend Walker is a conservative either. Like former Texas Governor Rick Perry, he’s a populist who leans to the right on some issues.

lol....right. Here's the full story on Walker and ethanol subsidies. At Iowa summit, Scott Walker shifts gears on ethanol mandate

He says he supports a phase out over time of the federal subsidies. Here's the story on what he said in 2006. From the article:

Ethanol came up when Walker first ran for Wisconsin governor in 2006, but he dropped out before the GOP primary. Before exiting the race, he ran a radio ad saying he opposed then-pending legislation that would have required all mid-grade gasoline in Wisconsin to include 10% ethanol. The measure did not pass.

In a statement at the time, Walker said, "It is clear to me that a big government mandate is not the way to support the farmers of this state. ... The free enterprise system must drive innovation to relieve our dependence on foreign oil, not mandates from the state or federal government."

Has Walker moved Wisconsin into the Red column?

Let's see Wisconsin go for the Republican in a couple of presidential elections and I'll agree it's a red state. I'll point out that last time around even with Paul Ryan on the ticket the state went for Obama by 8 points.

****

That is called Socialism lite. He also knows full well that government welfare programs are not phased out over time. In rare instances, they’re terminated. “Phase out” is a joke designed to dupe rubes. It’s like his fellow “conservative” Paul Ryan’s budgets that decrease the amount of deficit spending and might theoretically balance in a decade or so (after racking up another 20 trillion in debt).
