In a landmark decision on net neutrality, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) declared the Internet a public utility under Title II of the 1934 Communications Act as reported by CBS News. The 3-2 split decision forces Internet service providers to not actively discriminate in terms of what content is transmitted at what speed.
Obama issued a statement supporting the net neutrality decision.
“…will protect innovation and create a level playing field for the next generation of entrepreneurs.”
Just like Obamacare has? Just like the stimulus package?

Oh, by the way, already on Free Republic, there are threads popping up (just like with Obama) that Ted Cruz is not eligible for being President because he’s not a natural born citizen. Perhaps this is what you’re talking about in that people will ignore that about Ted Cruz, because of the precedent that Obama set.
They’re saying Soros contributed $196 million to get a yes vote on this - that’s kind of telling me the yes side is not my side.
Nobody has ever convinced me (except temporarily) that there are people who were citizens at birth who are not Natural Born Citizens.
“Obama” is not any kind of citizen. He was a British Subject at birth, and is now a British Subject and/or an Indonesian citizen. Since he was not an American citizen at birth, he has never been and never can be a Natural Born Citizen.
Oh, and also, the D’s voted yes and the R’s no.

They can charge anything they want for the different levels of service, as they do already. What they can’t do is scam people. That’s a different story.
An example of scamming is a telcom restricting service to a particular service or website. For an example to make it more understandable here on Free Republic, it would be like a telcom coming to Free Republic and saying that if Free Republic pays a fee to them, they will guarantee service for their customers. If Free Republic doesn’t agree to pay the fee, then the telcom cannot guarantee that their customers will be able to access Free Republic.
That’s one such thing that these telcoms are doing, in supplying their customers with “specially selected websites and services, meaning the websites who have paid for it.
Also, there is the “throttling” of the speeds, even when a customer has paid for it already. Then there are the “fast lanes” where service is slowed down until a website pays for a “speed lane”.
There are things that are not to be allowed ... by those telcoms.
I just don’t like being scammed by a company when I pay for 150 Mbps down ... and can’t get a mere 15 Mbps movie. That’s scamming ... and not to be allowed.

I live in a very rural area. It’s true that a land line works (using an older phone) during a power outage, so I’ve been told, but my cell is what I use to report the outage with.

What outage are you talking about? The old POTS line rarely ever breaks down. Are you using another kind of phone for your home, other than a POTS line?
The Internet protocol was not broken but the telecoms are overriding it with “THROTTLING” and “SPEED LANES” ... :-) ...
In addition to that, they’re not delivering what’s being paid for by customers (like I was saying ... having 150 Mbps down and not getting a 15 Mbps movie ... that’s throttling!).
