I guess they should be thankful they don’t have to learn Arabic.
Donde es su tarjeta verde?
Still in the hyphenated-American phase.
*mumblin*...."when I was just a kitten growing up....if a cop wanted to reach me he got a longer night stick"
I would expect their bilingual requirements to be English and Jive.
But Spanish? The invasion continues...
So, police in Minnesota would be required to learn Swedish? French in Lousianna? Arabic in Michigan?
So much for English as America’s official language.
Which USA jurisdiction will be the first to outlaw English?
It would make much more sense to expect that those who want to live in this country would at least learn English. What an incredible sense of entitlement!
Canadian EH?
I am all for learning another language but to be forced to in America to get or keep your job isn’t right. I grew up in South Florida (Hialeah) and moved to Broward after I walked into my bank and the teller began speaking to me in Spanish.
If schools were required to teach Mandarin and Spanish, maybe Americans would stop being so insular and provincial.
Hmm. If México was required to teach Inglés, they might be less insular and provincial themselves, maybe?
What about ebonics for the hood?
I have no problem with this. To be an effective LEO these days a basic knowledge of Spanish is essential to your survival on the street.
However very soon the Hispanic community will be screaming racism because they are being singled out or targeted by law enforcement.
Good idea. Won’t take long to learn “hands behind your back, get on the ground Asshole”
How 'bout the perps?
Manos arriba, pendejo!
