“...When someone tries to lay a guilt trip on you for being successful, remember that your guilt is some politician’s license to take what you worked for and give it to someone else who is more likely to vote for the politician who plays Santa Claus with your money...”

Sowell has a knack for an economy-of-words argument.

I’m not a sucker for these “White guilt” dramas. But my new business is not successful yet so I could not feel guilty about success in that area. But I do feel something of a growing hostility toward government at all levels throwing up roadblocks to success.

Good luck with your business.

I was just talking with a successful business man who said he wanted to give back to the community. I asked if he had stolen from them? Of course he said no. Did he force someone to buy his product or surface? Of course, no. I then suggested that he may have given people what they wanted as evidenced by his success. If they got what they wanted or needed at a competitive price he had in fact given to the community.

Not too long ago, Safeway was extorted into building affordable housing in order to expand one of their stores. People continually lamented that Safeway took and did not give back. THe idiots had no idea where their food came from and that if it was a small independent store, the prices likely would have been very high indeed.
