What won't work is having an insurance company pay for every band-aid issued by a hospital.
Catastrophic coverage gives people a vested interest in know what and why they are being charged and the ability to shop around.
Compared to Hillary’s plan his idea might have seemed “conservative” at the time.
Ben Carson was a lifelong registered Democrat until late last year.
Ben Carson...not ready for prime time, and NOT a conservative.
I agree, but he has achieved pop star status with some conservative and with the GOP. He is still a Democrat at heart, despite opposing Obama on healthcare.
“Ben Carson was a lifelong registered Democrat until late last year.”
Also said that he believes that crimes are committed by inanimate objects (guns) and therefore, those inanimate objects should be banned in urban areas.
Wow. A lot changes in 19 yarns — the arc of history bends towards conservatism.
I don’t get this whole Ben Carson boomlet. We have never elevated an individual to the presidency with no government service prior to that. Never.
Some may have what sound like good arguments for involving the government in our lives, but I haven’t seen one yet that didn’t mean the government in the right hands didn’t have a leash on each, and every one of us.

He is a novelty, a black that said something almost conservative once.
Too many want to run a novelty thinking they will gain black voters, they won’t.
Blacks vote for free stuff, color means nothing without that.
Ben needs to find a new hobby.
He could go to poor countries or poor sections of this country and do pro bono operations. Mrs. 2ndDivisionVet runs programs through her company’s charity that send eyeglasses to poor countries and has vans that make glasses for poor kids in this country.
1996 was nearly 20 years ago.
I am interested in Dr. Carson’s positions today.
I also think he ought to run for Senate or the House.
He is exceedingly intelligent and worth supporting.
A) Carson should not be viewed as a viable option. He’s simply not in any way experienced politically.
B) The idea of some sort of worst-case scenario catastrophic care offered for low income is not a horrible idea. It has to be state run, though. There are also likely better options, and if this should be part of the solution it has to be optional ...and not part of a mandate-filled, government takeover of the medical sector. Let companies offer whatever they want with minimal regulation for fraud and abuse.
Oh, gee, twenty years ago. 2 years ago to the dweeb who touted ACA was “that was so long ago”.
So what.
These mindless drones are just that.
Yes, and at one point, as our liberal friends point out, Heritage floated the idea of the individual mandate — although nothing like the one in Obamacare. They quickly came to the conclusion that it was an unconstitutional, bad idea.
Someone needs to ask Dr. Carson if this is still his policy.
Agreed. Ben Carson is a nice man, a great surgeon and a good American but not a conservative. He is not the guy for President.
I haven’t been impressed with this man as a political figure since I first saw and heard him. He seems like a nice man and he very well may be a great doctor, but he is not someone I would like to see run the country.
obamacare bump.
