Pennsylvania's capital is facing a lawsuit believed to be the first filed under a new state law designed to give gun owners and gun rights groups a better chance at dismantling illegal municipal firearms ordinances.
Houston-based U.S. Law Shield and two members of its Pennsylvania chapter filed the lawsuit, asking the court to stop Harrisburg from enforcing various firearms ordinances. They include ordinances that ban possession of firearms in parks, allow the mayor to prohibit public possession of weapons in a declared state of emergency and require gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms to police.
The 48-page complaint said the defendants possess and use their guns in accordance with state law, but they are now "in danger of facing prosecution and criminal penalties."
The law took effect last week. After Gov. Tom Corbett signed it last year, the National Rifle Association lauded it as "the strongest firearms pre-emption statute in the country."
A city spokeswoman had no immediate comment on the lawsuit. Mayor Eric Papenfuse has previously said the state law represents "a fringe ideological view" and that rescinding those ordinances sends the wrong message, given the problem of gun violence in cities like Harrisburg.
Corbett, a Republican, leaves office next week. Democrat Tom Wolf, who beat him in the Nov. 4 election, opposed the firearms law. The state attorney general, Democrat Kathleen Kane, has declined to defend the law in court, leaving its defense to Corbett's office and lawmakers.

We are in a battle to protect our 2nd Amendment and our right to carry & use firearms in self-defense. Do not be deceived because the Democrats are on the other side of that battle. Their idea of self-defense is alarm systems & calling 9-1-1.
As many unfortunate victims of violent crime have discovered too late, enforcement of the law normally occurs after crimes have already been committed & the police are not personal bodyguards.

Pennsylvania’s Constitution is even stronger than the Second Amendment regarding the right to bear arms:
“The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned”
No purpose, no qualification, just the right.
Hope these cities are sued until the bleed. It should come directly from the pockets of the “officials” enacting the Unconstitutional laws. THEN it would stop.
Isn’t Harrisburg the site of one of the best gun shows on the planet?
Yes, in spite of the people running the city.
Unfortunately, it’s the taxpayers who pay, and in the small cities, they are not the same as the voters.
