No it does not. It increases Putin’s influence, especially over the USA, which under Obama is becoming more like what was once called the Second World.

“Well you know what they say. Never get between a libertarian and his hookers and blow. Libertarianism is a theoretical construct that only works in a perfect world with perfect people. Do you know how to create a libertarian? Just take a conservative and remove all common sense.”

BOL! I will be sending you my bill for a new keyboard and mouse, which I ruined because I had coffee in my mouth as I read your reply.

Yes, what WOULD Reagan do?

President Ronald Reagan was resolute in his no-nonsense stand against tyranny in all forms. That can't be questioned as he stood firmly against communism. His bravery led to the fall of the Berlin Wall. And later, the Helms-Burton, co-authored by Patriot Jesse Helms (admired by Ted Cruz) Act put additional teeth into the Cuban embargo. The correct action is to isolate the enemy.

I agree with FReeper stalwart lazamataz who succinctly states that if hussein is for it, I'm against it. The evil regime that illegally seized power in the fraudulent election of November 2008 adds this move to their lengthy list of plans to weaken America. These courageous words from Sarah Palin are a must read and quite topical to this thread.

My position on Cuba is clear: we should not lift the trade embargo until Cuba ceases to be a gulag state.

I don’t know what Obama’s “announcement” is supposed to accomplish, but the Helms-Burton Act codified the Cuba embargo, meaning that Obama can’t end the embargo unless Congress legislates its repeal.

As for the effect on FL 2016 of Obama’s announcement, this will not be helpful to the Democrat nominee. In 2012, Obama was able to get roughly half of the FL Cuban vote, which was barely enough to carry the state (by less than 1%); Cuban-Americans that had forgotten why their family was Republican will be reminded that the Democrats are the party that refuses to stand up for the Cuban people when threatened by the Castros.

Clinton signed Helms-Burton into law and did better among Cuban voters in 1996 than democrats had done in decades, but he pissed it all away when he met Castro’s demand that he return Elian Gonzalez (whose mother had given her life for his freedom) to Cuba, and Gore got stomped so badly among FL Cubans (and with such a huge turnout) that he lost the state despite his historic performance in the I-4 Corridor; whatever good will Obama got from his (unconstitutional) amnesty actions (I don’t understand why amnesty is popular among Cuban-Americans, none of whom have relatives that benefit from it, but for some reason it polls well), he is pissing it away by providing the Castros with the hard currency they covet.

Another angle on this move: An Opportunity for MORE Illegal Aliens to become ‘voters’ here . . .

Agree. He will try to buy anything at the expense of others..

Also I wonder when he will invite a cuban refugee who is now living in the US to thank him for all the abuses and torture he/she endured, and possibly their remaining family in Cuba is enduring to this day.....

Crickets....

“You’re assuming Cuba would have just let them in.”

Actually, he was talking about the back channels between Russia and us after the Cuban Missile Crisis was over getting an agreement to allow those stores in.

As we know, a communist country would have never allowed that to happen.

If you can find west coast vintage cars, or from Nevada, Arizona, Texas, yes. Little rust.

Check out http://www.desertclassics.com/
This guy has some REALLY cool vintage wheels.

I’d love to restore an old 70s vintage muscle car, but it’s just not in the finances.

Something like a 60 Caddy with fins, or a 64 Thunderbird... would be a sweet ride.

I was born in Cuba.

Maybe I will be able to go visit the hospital I was born in and the church I was baptised in.

Provided the Commies haven’t destroyed both.

I'll make this really simple for you. The private sector in China today accounts for about 60-70% of its GDP, depending on whose estimates you want to believe (World Bank vs. CIA vs. various other sources ). Under Mao, the contribution of the private sector to China's GDP was effectively 0.

Now, show me some evidence that the private sector in China under Mao was what it is today before calling me a liar. As to the argument that their private sector is "not really" private because of all of their bureaucracy, regulations, subsidies, price/wage controls, and other market distortions created by the state, I agree. Similar market distortions exist in the US and they exist severalfold more in many European countries and in Latin America (Mexico being a prime example). Market distortions and crony capitalism are not equivalent to Communism, unless you wish to claim that most of the world is "Communist."

So I can be seduced by the tourist propaganda, you mean?

It always seemed the height of hypocrisy to me that we had free trade and diplomatic relations with China right after Tiananmen Square, while Cuba was somehow beyond the pale.

Teddy Kennedy had to keep the JFK legacy in place.

But, they are both dead now. (and Teddy is probably still sober!)

I live that graph but I wish the US was included. I think I read that our break even price is around $60.00. But I am not sure

Cozying up to communist countries by the US will not end the tyranny their people live under. Tyranny feeds upon free countries’ generosity.

You think in the 1950’s China didn’t have any shops?

You spew forth lies.

You admit your lies but take the admission as a dismissal.

Eg, they aren’t Communist, just authoritarian.

Eg, They are all private companies, but they aren’t really private, but so what?

Your argument makes no sense. You argue China is “authoritarian”. Your argument then is that Cuban should be like China, thus continue to be authoritarian, just like China.

Makes no sense. why would you want to do that?

My question to you is why are you such a CCP propagandist?
