North Korea blasts Christmas tree near border as ‘despicable psychological warfare’
Washington Times ^ | December 6, 2014 | Douglas Ernst

North Korea is irate at its neighbor to the south for its decision to allow Christians to erect a 30-foot Christmas tree roughly two miles form the border, saying it will “escalate confrontation” and cause a war.

The KCNA news agency, North Korea’s state-run media apparatus, described the Christmas tree as an “intolerable insult” and an act of “despicable psychological warfare” by South Korea that “will fan up the confrontation with the fellow countrymen in the north and bring a war disaster.”

I've seen Christmas decoration wars here in the neighborhood. This could get nasty.

NK needs to have a giant Santa display, right away to counter.

Kim Jong Un finds it despicable.

Perhaps that why Christianity had so much appeal to Koreans of all Asian peoples.

When I watch a Korean drama about Joseon, I feel right at home.

I even forget they’re Asian.

Can you possibly believe it? These Right-Wing Evangelicals are trying to inject their religion into the holiday?

I have no idea why atheists are so affronted by a (gasp!) Christmas tree.

Dear Leader Kim would be right at home in the ACLU.

Many people don’t realize that South Korea is a majority Christian nation. The only other Christian nation in Asia is the Philippines .

I live in Texas, so there are a bunch of churches around.

When I went to South Korea, I saw more church construction than I could imagine. And being from Texas, I can imagine a lot of churches. 2 on my street here.

Kind of blows the whistle on the Kim wannabes here at home that demand Christmas be crushed.

Taking the “war on Christmas” a little too literally!

Why should atheists be offended by a Christmas tree when it is a Germanic pagan import. “Oh, Tanenbaum.” Anyone know how tanenbaum translates??

Tannenbaum in German - Tanne - means a fir and baum is tree.

German poets have praised its evergreen qualities for centuries.

It seems to me that the North Koreans are upset because it demonstrates that the South Koreans have electricity to spare on decorations while the North doesn't even have electricity for street lights.

The North Koreans are upset because the love of Christ competes with the worship of the demi-god Dear Leader.

That quite simply cannot be tolerated.
