Jean Beliveau, one of the greatest legends to ever play in the National Hockey League, has passed away. He was 83.
Elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, Beliveau scored 507 goals and 712 assists in 1,125 games over parts of 20 seasons, all as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.
Beliveau was the first player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup playoffs MVP, winning the award in the Canadiens 1965 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. In the end, Beliveau won the Stanley Cup 10 times with the Canadiens.
Along with being the captain of the Canadiens for 10 years, Beliveau was awarded the Order of Canada in 1989.

I must say, that Canadiens uniform is the best uniform in all sports, IMHO.

Reminds me of ( the famous ) short film,
The Sweater, featuring multiple references to Maurice Richard ... it's great!

I’ve thought about getting me a sweater, because of the initials CH.

Beliveau was one of the all-time best. Saw him play many times against my Blackhawks.
BTW, Gordie Howe is not doing well these days.

Howe had a massive stroke. A sad day for hockey.

Many of my heros from earlier days are reaching the point where they will no longer be with us, as am I (77 yers). Although I too played hockey as a kid, I was never even close to being good enough for the NHL.
RIP Jean Beliveau

One I wished I could have seen play. Always an impressive gentleman, his name was mentioned with reverence as one of the all time greats when I first watched hockey. RIP Jean.

Al Arbour isn’t doing well either. 1500 games and 4 Stanley Cups as Islanders coach.
10 Cups with the same team is just incredible. Just looked, it was less than 20 years too.
In 23 years, from the Yankees most recent World Series to 23 years prior, they won 5 World Series. (not that baseball can ever compare to hockey)
