More Guns for Gabby, While Vets Lose Their’s

We know that she suffered serious brain trauma and needed more than a year to regain even partial mobility and speech. We also know that she has staged a remarkable recovery becoming the figurehead of a gun control operation started by her husband, Mark Kelly. Rep. Giffords and Capt. Kelly often point out that they are not anti-gun and make show of buying, owning, and shooting guns.

A few weeks later I got a tearful call from Larry and his wife, looking for my advice. A letter had arrived from the VA informing them that Larry’s disability status was being upgraded. Then the letter said that Larry’s name would be forwarded to the FBI for inclusion in the National Instant Check System as someone who is “mentally incompetent,” and that he would be prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. The VA advised that all firearms and ammunition in the home must be removed, and that ever allowing Larry to have access to a firearm or ammunition would be a federal felony.

A point I have made repeatedly. Here we have a Veteran who has now had his name placed on the "disqualified" list due to his reclassification and mark and gabby are not considered mentally disabled. Equality under the law need not apply. Disgusted? You betcha!

Most politicians would not pass security clearance and background checks. Biggest loophole of horsesht ever.

Somehow this doesn’t ring true. Even if Larry is mentally incompetent, that does not make it illegal for his wife to have guns. Maybe the VA under Obama is sending these letters, but if they are, they are legally incorrect.

The VA incessantly asks, “Are you depressed? Do you have thoughts of suicide?”

Although there is a compassionate element in this, I’ve been worried that there is an ulterior motive - disarm veterans.

Now they will label me “paranoid” and mentally disqualified to own firearms.

:-)

I would NEVER seek medical attention for ANY issues that could be associated with mental health. That will be a vehicle to subject us to constitutional infringements of all kinds, with firearms ownership being just ONE of them.

Pretty soon, I don’t think it will be a good idea to interact with any part of our health system at all. We are going to be subject to privacy violations, big brother(on steroids), and crime of all kinds - from government, more government, insurance companies/corporations, and hackers/criminals/identity thieves, ect.

The future of health care is NOT GOOD!!! ....

Veterans who seek any sort of help for PTSD and other mental health issue, or make any sort of comment to any medical practitioner concerning their judgment ability run the risk of falling into the same boat as this man. With electronic health records and the ACA, it’s not just the VA who will be mandating these actions without benefit of due process. This is one of the goals of the gun grabber crowd, to deny their political opponents the right to own firearms by administrative fiat. Criminals, of course, may continue to acquire and use firearms in the usual manner.

Yes, never tell the VA that you feel and have ever felt anything other than good mentally. It’s just a good defense. Seek any mental health you can elsewhere if needed and don’t tell them you are a Veteran if you don’t have to. Talked about this with many other Veteran friends of mine.

Not sure, but from what I have seen and read, if one partner in a home where someone may have a domestic violence related record, no weapons are allowed in the house. Varies by jurisdiction and I’m sure somebody will enlighten me if needed. (probably will!)

You don't understand; the burearchy is quite useful in grinding down the people they can put out their pronouncement and then it's up to you to fight it, which can mean you against dozens of other bureaucrats and/or the judicial system — they want you isolated so that they can gang up on you and impose their control on you… the funny thing is that if/when CWII strikes they'll quickly find the tables turned: a few bureaucrats against a whole lot of pissed off people out for their blood.

Oddly, if I go to my “page” on the Medicare site, they make sure to let me know that there are certain “benefits” I haven’t currently taken advantage of. Mental health/depression screening, alcohol/substance abuse counseling............ My thought is....Why would I even consider either of these? Maybe they’ll automatically determine that since I “won’t take advantage” of these available benefits that I must be hiding something. Hmmmmmm. Maybe I need a closer look. :>}

Agreed, they already have the tools to do it and, ironically, many conservatives defend these tools: the prohibition of felons who have served their sentence to keep and bear arms.

Then we’ll just have to do like the hypocritical gun-grabbers and the criminals who own weapons do, and keep them “under the radar”. It works for them, somehow. If they get caught, just for possession of a weapon, they usually get a slap on the wrist, if that. The courts save the real sentences for law-abiding citizens who missed a loophole.

I’m a Vietnam vet & I won’t go to the VA for ANY kind of treatment. Not impressed with what I saw at the local VA center. They cater to those whose medical insurance is zero, zip, nada but who earned a DD 214 decades back. Brought in by the busload from affordable housing if you get my drift.

Get PTSD in your dossier & there’s a target on your back forever.
