These apologists are purposely misrepresenting the doctrine of Islam. It is completely permissible to lie about what Islam is to Westerners. It’s called taqiyya. The Koran has a lot of contradictory statements in it. Muslim scholars take the chronologically latest one. Since Islam started out having to pretend to be a normal realistic tolerant religion when it first started out, there are a lot of normal tolerant sounding things in the early parts of the Koran, but they have bee superseded by the later “kill everyone who refuses to convert” statements.
It’s the same way with Muslim populations in traditionally non-Muslim countries. They pretend to be normal rational and tolerant until they figure there are enough of them that they need to be in charge. Then the tolerance stops.
No one in the middle East believes what this person is saying is true and neither should you.
Correct, it is call “Abrogation”. You can’t cherry pick quotes from the Quran, you have to know the *order* - which is made more difficult by the fact that the book isn’t in chronological order.
Therefore, pointing these out is pointless. Mo got more and more violent as time went on, murder was common and specifically calls for “smite the necks of the unbelievers” (Christians and Jews) - I’m sure all these quotes probably apply still to Muslims, so long as they’re the “right kind of Muslim” !!!
The Koran, piss be upon it, stipulates that all things are Allah’s (their moon god), and if anyone denies this then they must be killed. However, they can be killed in time and not right away, but they must still be killed if they will not convert.

Besides, we only need to quote one section from the Quran to debunk these claims (parenthetical notes are mine):

And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disassociated from the disbelievers, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you repent, that is best for you; but if you turn away - then know that you will not cause failure to Allah . And give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment.
Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him].
And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah (signifying conversion to Islam), let them [go] on their way. Notice, at the end, there is no choice given to “live peacefully with the polytheists (Christians)”. They are to be killed, unless they convert to Islam, and this is commanded by the Muslims’ holy book.

Yes, definitely have heard that regarding the Koran, but I’m not a scholar of it so I couldn’t site any verse touchy feely or violent. Just playing devil’s advocate and taking this person at his word about the good things. But if the adherents are ignoring the good stuff and the Koran is chock full of the violent and that’s what they are following, it’s all moot anyway.
Islam resolves the contradictions by stating that in any contradiction, the later passage supersedes the earlier passage.
The problem is of course, the earlier passages were the "peaceful" Islam and the later passages were all head hacking, clit hacking, hand/foot hacking, gay hanging, kill all the Jews, passages.
The more peaceful Mecca verses of the koran are pretty much superseded by the more aggressive Medinian verses of the Koran.
