White House used Mitt Romney health-care law as blueprint for federal law

(Oct 11, 2011) Newly obtained White House records provide fresh details on how senior Obama administration officials used Mitt Romney’s landmark health-care law in Massachusetts as a model for the new federal law, including recruiting some of Romney’s own health care advisers and experts to help craft the act now derided by Republicans as “Obamacare.”

“The White House wanted to lean a lot on what we’d done in Massachusetts,” said Jon Gruber, an MIT economist who advised the Romney administration on health care and who attended five meetings at the Obama White House in 2009, including the meeting with the president.

In addition to Obama himself, the meetings attended by Gruber were presided over by the president’s chief economic adviser, Lawrence Summers, then budget director Peter Orzag and Nancy-Ann DeParle, the president’s chief adviser on health care, the records show. Gruber was also given a $380,000 contract by the Obama administration in 2009 to work with Congress on drafting a new federal law based on the Massachusetts law, records show.

MSM's "It's Bush's fault." wont fly. Switch to "It's Romney's fault."

At least the latter is truthy.

Actual conservatives knew this during the 2012 primaries. But the GOP-E got their man, the only Republican in the United States who couldn’t run against Obamacare.

Thanks to the GOPe we had the only candidate who could not attack Obama at his weakest point (RomneyObamaCare) because Romney was it’s intellectual father.

See tagline.

There were a lot of Freepers demanding Obamacare.

They insisted that those who voted third party instead of Romney or Obama really wanted Obama. There isn’t a way to do that UNLESS they think socialized medicine isn’t worth opposing and it doesn’t matter whether one is part of implementing it or not.

Attacking those who oppose it is supporting it.

“This should at least flush the Romney 2016 terd down the toilet.”

I doubt it. The liberal Republican hierarchy will try to force Romney on us once again. I don't know if they're gluttons for punishment or they have some secret deal with the Dems to ensure another Democrat becomes president. It will be up to us to see to it a conservative wins — with or without the Republican party.

Well, at one time a lot of conservatives, including Heritage Foundation, supported the individual mandate approach on the ground that it would eliminate free riders.

Only after the debate progressed did a consensus emerge that the mandate is an infringement on individual liberty and free markets and is something we all oppose.
