Doesn't seem normal for a SEAL to trumpet a personal accomplishment in this manner.
"ONeills decision to speak out was prompted by losing some of his military benefits by quitting the SEALs after 16 years rather than staying for a full 20 years of service."
What did he think would happen? He quit at 16. That's not 20. Everyone knows full retirement is 20+.
Is this just an attempt cash in?
Triple tap ???
One news piece said that all these "leaders" write a tell all book....Why not the guy who pulled the trigger?
Are his seal brothers really shunning him?
Didn't Obama out the seals on that mission?
How many of those seals are still alive?
Some targets are definitely worth the extra expenditure of ammunition.
Just 3?!?
Hope this soldier stays safe.
Yup-and Osama was OVERDUE!
AR in “burst” config.
OBL is dead and that’s all that matters. Actually, I never thought he was anyone special as far as Jihadis go; the media made a very big deal out of him though after 9/11, and it took some 10+ yrs to finally & officially send him to hell.
I’m all for finding out who our military heroes are, secrecy be damned. We need more Audie Murphys and Alvin Yorks to serve as role models for future generations. Uncle Sam needs to realize this and stop trying to keep hiding in the shadows.
When I hear the admiral speak of an ethos that requires silence but not disparage the Obama administration for all the leaks on the same operation I can’t help but understand the Chief Petty Officers decision to speak out.
I had sort of hoped it would have been a sniper’s .50 cal head shot as Bin Laden was in the middle of buggering a goat, but three shots they way it actually happened is good enough.
Good questions, Sacajaweau. There was a former SEAL on Fox and Friends who was very adamant about “keeping his mouth shut” and he needs to “shut up”. Why O’Neill has decided to tell of his part in the raid, is a mystery. He has definitely put a bull’s-eye on his back that those of his family.
As to your question “How many are still alive?”, I found this article about their helicopter being shot down. http://patdollard.com/2013/09/seal-team-6-families-suspicions-of-obama-administration-grow-we-believe-someone-made-a-deal-with-the-enemy/ How many of the other SEALs have been killed in other ways, I don’t know. I’m sure there aren’t many of them left.
In a letter to past and present SEALs, Force Master Chief Michael. Magaraci and commander Rear Adm. Brian Losey, made it clear that the vow of silence remains one of the most important tenets of SEAL life.
‘A critical tenant (sic) of our Ethos is ‘I do not advertise the nature of my work, nor seek recognition for my actions.’ Magaraci and Losey wrote.
‘Violators of our Ethos are neither Teammates in good standing, nor Teammates who represent Naval Special Warfare.’
‘We do not abide willful or selfish disregard for our core values in return for public notoriety and financial gain, which only diminishes otherwise honorable service, courage and sacrifice.’
The two leaders made it clear that O’Neill’s decision to go public translates into shame among former SEALs, and that he could even face legal action.
‘Classified information is protected by law,’ they wrote.
‘All members exposed to classified information have a duty obligation to protect this information, regardless of what may be reflected in the media, accurately or otherwise.’
‘We will actively seek judicial consequence for members who willfully violate the law, and place our Teammates, our Families, and potential future operations at risk.’
why the eff did he quit after 16? Everyone knows it’s 20.
This one makes me very uneasy too.
And Omar? Omar not being dead really frosts me.
Roger that. Most have the 3 round burst. I can remember when our M16s had rock and roll and they were changed to the 3 round burst to stop all the John Waynes from blasting off a mag in seconds and using up all their ammo. I knew guys in nam that could go through their basic load in minutes with the heavy finger.
Three shots one kill!
How many times did he miss?
I thought maybe it was so he could expose some things without getting a dishonorable discharge? It’s just what went through my mind at first....
