An elementary school in Mobile, Alabama forced a 5-year-old student to sign a "safety contract" promising not to kill herself or anyone else because the girl allegedly pointed a crayon at another student and said, "pew pew."
The girl's mother was summoned to E.R. Dickson Elementary school and told that her daughter had drawn something that resembled a gun and pretended to shoot with the crayon. The mother told Local 15 News that while she waited in the lobby and without her consent, the school gave her daughter a questionnaire evaluating her for depression and suicidal thoughts, and finally forced her to sign a "Mobile County School Safety Contract" promising she wouldn't kill herself or others.
"While I was in the lobby waiting they had my 5-year-old sign a contract about suicide and homicide," the mother said. "This isn't right. She's 5 years old. Most of these words on here, she's never heard in her life."
The mother, who did not want to be identified, said her daughter was confused asking, "Mommy, daddy, what is suicide?" "I'm the one that should be able to talk to my child and not have someone else mention words like this in front of her at all," said the mother.
The news report points out that Alabama law prohibits minors from legally signing any documents. School officials did not respond to requests for explanations from Local 15 News.
The school requested the kindergartner meet with a psychiatrist. The mother disagrees and wants the incident immediately removed from her child's records.

Just wing ‘em kid.
Besides, no contract with a minor is valid, anyway. /S
She has to write 100 times on the blackboard, “I will kill nobody with a crayon.”
Just like liberals to think that somebody with murder on their mind would reconsider for fear of breach of contract.
This contract will instill issues of murder, death
and suicide into the 5 year old FOREVER.
Then, the Education dept will force her to consider
being a transsexual, and then she will be
raped by a leering (criminal) pedophile teacher.
What on Earth have we become?
Well, there might be a few kids who are being ugly on purpose with the pretend gun, but really there ought to be a serious effort to make sure it isn’t consensual kids play before going off the deep end about it.
Scapegoaters, that’s what.
The school administrators are the ones who need a shrink.
Good thing she didn’t try to kiss a boy. She’d be marked as a pedophile for the rest of her life - but in that school if she kissed another girl, well that would have .....
This supercilious over reaction is an attempt to control what people do and say. Out of fear of the ridiculous reaction people will err on the side of doing what they perceive the crazies want. At a Fortune 500 company I was nearly written-up for a lunchtime conversation with an amateur gun smith on concealed carry. The grounds were that the HR lady who overheard the conversation was offended and we’d signed a contract to never offend anybody. The VP who talked to me said, “I know guns aren’t specifically forbidden but use your head. Anything that isn’t politically correct is essentially forbidden speech.”
Also on the forbidden list, any joke and anything about religion or politics.
Oh for [insert expletive] sake. This is getting ridiculous.
Then I would kill the person who made me sign a no kill contract.
If the feral government can turn everyone into a potential criminal, they can take away the right so everyone and turn them into wards of the state.
Pretty clever, eh?
They certainly went off the deep end, insanely so. However, I suppose the idiots-in-charge were probably reacting to the fear of potential liability in the future. The Supreme Court has validated some horrendous liability laws governing the responsibility of teachers and administrators regarding bullying, etc. The least little thing can be twisted and result in financial and professional destruction. Also, as a warning to anyone, parents who chaperon student events can also incur the same liability.
That’s what Social Security cards are for!
A life lesson in contract law at 5 years old. A minor signing a contract under duress with no performance required of the school.
Unfortunately, it's all too real. Still unbelievable that officials could be SO INCREDIBLY WRONG.
They've warped that little girl for life. They should expunge her record -- AND ALL OTHER RECORDS OF IT -- completely and NEVER, EVER mention it again for any reason. Let the kid forget all about it. Otherwise, if she goes off the deep end in 10 or 15 years, I would trace it to this gross over-reaction and lay the blame on these officials.
They're the ones who should see the psychiatrist. And get fired, never to work again in education.
