Certainly investigate their backgrounds, but I suspect they simply didn’t want to go back to Afghanistan.
Who would they? Their leaders are corrupt, and Obama is going to to turn the country over to the Taliban when the last US forces leave anyway.

Reminds me of a movie scene, from which I can't recall the movie name, where the commander orders mohammed to come to him, and ALL 50 of his soldiers pop up from the rocks to come over.
