I’m sure the gun-control crowd is pleased...
Are you forgetting Chris Kyle?
uh...no....
The great American sniper, not too long ago.
A couple of suicides at ranges in the last few years also.
Chris Kyle, but I think that was a murder case.
I’m not sure that’s true, I think I’ve read about accidents at ranges from time to time, but I would agree it’s quite rare.
About 2 years ago this same type of incident happened ( ie a child with a full-auto smg) except in this one the kid shot and killed himself. I can’t imagine what would possess a sane adult to let a child handle anything but a bench-rested .22 rimfire. Thankfully the child was not physically injured and child services needs to check out the jackass parents. What comes next, kids getting to take a top fuel dragster down the strip? What a sad day for all responsible firearm owners, we’ll be tarred by the brush.
Sheriffs in gunfight with an asshole in Florida a few years ago also.
Ooooooooooooooooo
Bought my boy a Stevens Favorite 22 as first gun. Also, had a Mossberg 22 single shot bolt gun. I am against semi-autos for kids until they get plenty of experience.
After hearing a story about a woman shooting herself under the chin with a 44 mag in recoil——do not know if it was true——when he was eight I loaded a Redhawk with one round and had him shoot it. Ditto with a 45 Auto. He handled them fine except that they were really too heavy for him.
Not the only. very rare, yes, but it does happen.
A kid (6yo?) shot himself with a micro Uzi some years back at Knob Creek. Thing just spun around.
Lesson: don’t give people more firepower than they can obviously handle.
It happened last November at a range in Missouri when a girl was given a .500 caliber revolver to shoot and the recoil caused the gun to spin around in her hand and a second shot occurred after that killing her. I saw this story on a youtube video called “range jerks” just last night. Just like there are jerks on the road, they can be found in gun ranges too.
Never heard of suicides at the gun range? There was the mother son duo..i think there was one in Vegas.
Also forgot about Chris Kyle.
There was a very similar case in Western Massachusetts a few years ago where an 8 year old (under his father’s supervision) triggered an Uzi and the muzzle rise was so fast that he shot himself in the head.
>> gun ranges are quite possibly the safest places on the planet.
Except for the suicides: The Aurora Gun Range in Colorado had a pair of Australian sisters that offed themselves in stereo about 3-4 years ago. A fellow instructor was there for that one, and another a year or two before that.
Shoot Straight in Apopka, Florida (NW of Orlando) had a suicide last year.
A 8 year old boy was killed in Massachusetts when he shot himself in the head with a FA UZI back in 2011, IIRC. Another act of stupidity by range owners.
Firearms can be appropriate for kids (with supervision) if the child is mentally and physically capable of handling that weapon.’
My daughter can fire my Glock 19 with supervision.
My daughter CAN NOT fire a Glock 18 (auto) under any circumstances.
That's not correct. You're overstating your argument. Gun ranges are relatively safe, but there are still incidents and there are deaths. This isn't even the first child involved in a fatal accident with an uzi at a gun range! An 8 year old accidentally killed himself with an Uzi a few years back! I wouldn't let an 8 year old operate a table saw or a chain saw by themselves and I would be damned hesitant about giving them a submachine gun.
