The wide-open fight for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination appears certain to showcase a range of credible candidates, who differ from one another in both style and substance.
What the next crop of top-tier GOP contenders may not feature, however, is a woman.
The Republicans taking discernible steps to build the foundations required for White House runs are all men. And for a party trying to close the gender gap, the prospect of an all-male lineup may pose a significant public perception problem.
After the 2012 race saw President Obama defeat Mitt Romney by a double-digit margin among women, one way in which national Republicans have been aiming to do better has been by promoting some of their female rising stars.
Two governors, in particular -- New Mexicos Susana Martinez and South Carolinas Nikki Haley -- are frequently mentioned as vice-presidential material. Additionally, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers -- who delivered the Republican response to the presidents 2014 State of the Union address -- have also been singled out as solid national prospects.
But none of these women has begun to build the kind of fundraising network and political operation required to mount a serious bid for the Oval Office.

I’d like to see Palin run. But I’m afraid America has become too corrupt, too degenerate for someone of her calibre to win. The country is entering into its death-throes, and will undoubtedly only serve up more sleaze and slime from the Dems and the GOP-E.
The chances I’ll even bother to vote in 2016 are getting more and more slim.
Even when Palin’s church was torched shortly after the election, the GOP leaders didn’t even offer any vocal support to her, nor a word of outrage to the media outlets. That really stunned me at the time.
I’d exclusively voted and supported the GOP my entire adult life, but their shabby treatment of Palin made me lose every shred of respect, confidence and trust I had in the Republican Party.
To the establishment: Seriously. Try Governor Palin. The worst that can happen is that she loses. Which is the same thing the “safe” candidates have been doing. Or hadn’t you noticed?
Nope. And you know why? Sarah Palin is no idiot. She's not delusional either. She knows damn well she'd have to raise a fortune, spend a fortune and get put through a meat grinder only to lose as bad as Dukakis, --despite what all the "Draft Palin" folks around here think.
She's not interested and I don't blame her.
Romneys Palin Problem: Wheres Her Convention Invite? (Advisor: she will be prohibited to speak)
Honestly? No. They would be a very polarizing pair who may energize a large part of the base but I don't see them attracting much of the political middle and the left would absolutely loath them. The Democrats in Congress would set out to do them what was done to Obama and block anything and everything they might promote.
Add to that the fact that we've been suffering through 6 years of an amateur in the White House. I don't want another one.
As a woman I can safely say that I want a good ticket for 2016. I want a winning ticket for 2016. If that ticket happens to have a female candidate on it then fine. But I’m not interested in any sort of selection based on gender alone. Of the ones mentioned, I don’t think Bachman is an option. She turned herself into a joke in 2012 and I don’t think that’ll changed. Haley, with her jihad against Unions, would cost us Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania right off the bat. Martinez is interesting but I just don’t know that much about her.
So now liberals are complaining that the GOP doesn’t have female candidates...these people are insane. Look how they’ve trashed Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Christine O’Donnell and other female GOP candidates.
Margaret Thatcher... yes shes dead, and yes she is a Brit... but she was made from pretty stout stuff
Thats an unuual yet strangely inspiring way to put it.
onward and upward
The above could be said about ANY conservative candidate team.
Add to that the fact that we've been suffering through 6 years of an amateur in the White House. I don't want another one.
I'll take both Col West's AND Dr Carson's resumes over 0's, any day.
Just curious, who IS your choice for a "winning" ticket?
True.

You set the bar very low.
Just curious, who IS your choice for a "winning" ticket?
Cruz at the top. A governor in the second spot. Fallin of Oklahoma would pair him with a woman. Snyder of Michigan might give the GOP a shot at that state.
I don’t think he’ got enough anything to get out of the gate. But Obastard puts the lie to any of the “inexperienced” claims.
We’ll have to wait an see about DiBlasio, but at this early juncture I would say probably not. The leftards seem to be egging Bogus-hontas into the running early knowing that she will get the kid gloves treatment.
It does seem that the libtards have had enough of the Clintons. The “pig in a pantsuit” has made a royal mess in Benghazi and elsewhere.
I do think that F’n Kerry is looking to run again. Hence his frantic attempts to fix Hillary’s messes. Right now, on the left I would be looking outside again. Another Obama type, unknown, shady past, multi-racial, probably female, definitely a dyke.
The media - which most FReepers scoff at, as dead - has made the likes of Palin and Bachmann "soiled goods"....they know what they're doing, and are damn good at it.
Bottom line fact - neither are now anywhere near electable to dogcatcher, let alone higher office.
Their sh*t tactics work, and both the media and DNC damn well know it, and won't slack off one iota.......it's still their world, regarding the majority of America.
Another Obama type, unknown, shady past, multi-racial, probably female, definitely a dyke.
valerie jarrett has already blown her cover....
