Here comes the death spiral: Obamacare’s Prognosis Grows Dimmer
Townhall.com ^ | June 28, 2014 | Nick Sorrentino

It was already pretty dim for anyone who understands how insurance works. I used to be an insurance underwriter (property and casualty, not health) and I’ve been wondering since the beginning how anyone thought Obamacare was going to work. The risk size versus the pool of insureds doesn’t make sense. If insurance companies can’t adjust for risk (which for the most part they can’t under Obamacare) what bizarro mathematics is going to save this ill-conceived juggernaut of bureaucratic bull?

The answer is there is no math which will make it work. Either it gets tons more money from taxpayers or it dies.

I suspect that the people who threw Obamacare together just figured they’d get the camel’s nose under the tent and everything would work itself out. So what if it meant raising taxes and increasing the deficit and debt. They didn’t have a problem with that anyway. Once the thing starts to completely implode there will be no choice (in their political calculus) but to bail out the system. Heck maybe we’ll even get a VA style single payer system out of it. Won’t that be great?

We need to deal with catastrophic illness in the uninsured population. We need to solve that very real problem. Obamacare however is a million miles from that solution and serves to only give more power to the central planners in Washington. Which has been the point from the start.

Yay! Now get single payer! Yay!

Because the GOP-wing of the Democrat party will NEVER repeal it.

That's exactly right. Personally, I think everyone knew this thing was going to be a complete disaster but they also knew the system that existed before ObamaCare had the same fatal flaws. This was probably the best way for the whole thing to collapse. Years from now when people wonder how the whole disaster unfolded, even Democrats will gnash their teeth and curse the name of the jug-eared Kenyan exchange student whose name was stamped on it.

You gotta give Democrats a lot of credit for working it out this way. If there was any truth in Washington, this idiocy would have been called PelosiCare instead of ObamaCare.

“I’ve been wondering since the beginning how anyone thought Obamacare was going to work.”

It’ll work perfectly - its one and only purpose was always to weaken and undermine the American economy and the American way of life, and, at this, it’s doing just fine, thank you.

You've summed it up - oh, and to get the entire country and the private life of every citizen under the control of the Federal Government.

Alas, since the Senate version is the surviving form (the House version was essentially single-payer), the idiocy would be best dubbed Reidcare.

Thanks to the Fed, a currency backed by nothing, and zero interest rates, there will always be more money for government social engineering schemes. Why does anyone believe Obamacare is in a death spiral?

ObamaCare was designed to fail, to fail forward into socialized medicine. The federal health care system — i.e., the combination of Medicare, Medicaid, VA, Indian Health Services, and ObamaCare mandates — is so bad that even a UK-style socialized system would be better and less expensive. At least there is a private option under the UK system.

You're giving Obama and his advisers either too much or too little credit, depending on where you're coming from.

The answer to all your initial questions is simple and obvious : It never was it isn't now, and it will never be insurance. At least not in the legal sense that existed for over 500 years.

But for Obama, Jarrett and all the hundreds of socialists and 'progressives' in his administration there wasn't time to waste considering niceties such as honest, transparency, plain language, common sense and legal definitions!

Zero information and sub-70 IQ citizens rejoice!

A lib family member has been begging - BEGGING - my son to look at Obamacare. He’s had privately purchased ins for years, and she is convinced ins companies are all evil and if he would only look he would find a much better plan from OC.

She has tried calling him behind my back, texting - just not taking his word for it that OC is a huge scam that does NOT give good value, even with subsidies. Finally a few weeks ago he sat down with her and went through his plan with her.

She was astounded. She could not believe that OC was almost twice the price and less value than a private plan.

They believe the koolaid, that normal people have no decent health care, and need to be rescued by OC. When you show them proof OC is just messing it all up, they don’t know what to think.

They are just people and corrupt politicians like everyone else. When it comes down to it, they want to control people’s lives too. They just try to convince themselves they don’t want to.

In my view, the very purpose of Obamacare is to destroy the insurance companies and then, ta da, Democrats ride to the rescue by taking over completely with a single-payer system. "We had to it. Those evil insurance companies abandoned us."

Given the fact that the GOP no longer talks about repealing the mess this sentence doesn't fill me with a lot of optimism.

And after single payer, since this is about taxes and not health, people will ask for more socialist police brutal emergency solutions, like death camps etc...
