JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Ridgeland police chief Jimmy Houston confirms that Attorney Mark Mayfield has been found dead at his home in the Bridgewater subdivision.

We're told he suffered a gunshot wound.

It is being investigated as a suicide.

In May, Mayfield was arrested and charged with conspiracy in relation to a political scandal.

The 28-year-old blogger, Clayton Kelly, allegedly went into a nursing home and photographed the bedridden wife of Republican U.S. Senator Thad Cochran without permission and posted an image online as part of an anti-Cochran video.

It's not clear the exact role that Mayfield played in obtaining or spreading the photo.

Mayfield was a Board member of the Central MS Tea Party.

That was pretty funny the first five million times it was posted.

That was a bit snarky. I didn't take it as an attempt to be funny but rather to show that nothing seems to make a difference any longer and that's pretty scary.

I'm sure many of us are wondering at what point will something make a difference. Southern border is being invaded = pass. Strong stench of voter fraud in MS = pass. What's it gonna take?

It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that Henry Barbour is on the board of a MS Tea Party group...one that recruits Democrat blacks to vote for Republican fossils.

Seriously? Wow. Initial reports said it appeared to be suicide. Wonder what has been found. I wouldn’t put it past the Rethuglicans I’ve seen thus far in this race.

Sad all the way around.

It looks like he was murdered.

Is the State Police / FBI looking at this? Reeks of hate crime / civil rights violation if it IS foul plat.

Yes, I agree, it is sad.
I wondered though, how California and New York didn’t make it.

He didn’t take the photos. He was charged with conspiracy, I think.

Just found this article.

Mississippi Tea Party leader dead in apparent suicide

(Reuters) - A prominent lawyer and leader of the Mississippi Tea Party, who was arrested in connection with photos posted online of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran's bedridden wife, died on Friday of an apparent suicide, the man’s attorney said.

Mark Mayfield, 58, was a founding member of the state's Tea Party and had served as its vice chairman, the organization said.

"This is a terrible tragedy that shouldn’t have happened," Mayfield's lawyer and brother-in-law, John Reeves, told Reuters.

Mayfield was one of three men accused in May of conspiring with a blogger to illicitly take photos of Cochran's wife, who has dementia, in her nursing home for use in a political video against the six-term incumbent.

Mayfield was charged with conspiracy to photograph someone without permission, an allegation met with shock and some skepticism in the legal community where he was highly regarded.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant was among those who expressed sadness on Friday, calling Mayfield a long-time friend.

This is an excerpt from Reuters, the rest of the article is Here

Notice the word "apparent" in the title from Reuters? There seems to be some doubt.

Don-o, I don't know if the State Police / FBI are looking at this.

My source is a conservative investigative reporter/author who goes after things like this like a bloodhound. He's got the scent, hasn't published anything yet.

PS in the excerpt posted above it says Mayfield was one of the founders of the MS tea party and vice chairman.

Are you sure Mark Mayfield is the one who sneaked into her room and took the photo? This is the first time I've heard that version. Everybody else keeps saying the same thing we read above, "It's not clear the exact role that Mayfield played in obtaining or spreading the photo."

From what I read, Mark Mayfield was involved with making an anti-Cochran video, the pictures of the wife were intended as part of that video. the idea was going to be that Cochran was carrying on with his assistant while the wife was left helpless in a nursing home.

“Apparent” is a word one often sees before the Coroner rules.

More information:

Police said that Mayfield’s wife, Robin, called 911 just after 9 a.m. to say her husband had shot himself. Officers arrived to find the 57-year-old lying on the floor of a storage room in his garage with a single gunshot wound to the head and a “large caliber revolver” with the body.

Kelly is a scumbag for taking that photo. How does this factor into this so-called suicide?

Accidentally left out this part.

Lt. John Neal of the Ridgeland Police Department told POLITICO that there was a note recovered, but he declined to share its contents. He said no foul play is suspected but an autopsy will still be conducted.

Don’t tell me. I’m not the one spreading the rumor that Mayfield was the one who personally took the photos, and then committed suicide because he had destroyed his reputation in legal circles.
